Style Out with Wally Lopez this Thursday at LIMA

Best glasses ever! Wally Lopez, currently ranked #62 by DJ Magazine will be in DC this Thursday to showcase the best Spain has to offer. Having worked with the likes of Madonna and David Guetta, the Spaniard with the funky glasses is guaranteed to bring a hip European flow to Lima Restaurant & Lounge.

Whether you’re a fervent supporter of electronic music, someone who’s looking for a sophisticated dance club, or the occasional patron of DC Nightlife, Lima provides a chic atmosphere while still allowing you to sweat it out on the dance floor.

Wally began his professional career at the age of 13 on Spanish radio. While most kids his age were discovering the opposite sex, Wally was broadcasting to thousands and eventually hundreds of thousands of listeners. In 2000 the 24 year-old Lopez produced “Amman,” his first international hit, followed by “Patricia Never Leaves the House,” and “Disco Night.” Supported by the likes of past Glow DJs Steve Lawler and Hernan Cattaneo, those three tracks planted Lopez on the international radar. In 2004 Wally’s remix of David Guetta’s “Just a Little More Love,” helped cement both artists’ celebrity.

Since 2001 he has been stuffing his trophy case with awards for Best Production (Deejay Mag 2001, 2004), Best International Newcomer (Ibiza Deejay Awards 2002), Deejay of the Year (Deejay Mag 2005-2008), and a slew of others.

Today Wally Lopez is a brand. With his own clothing line, a partnership with Vueling Airlines and the distinction of being the only non-athlete sponsored by Oakley, he has started to transcend music. Last year he was named an Ambassador of Dance4Life, an organization created to fight AIDS amongst youth. As a humanitarian Lopez also collaborated on the “Mixing for Haiti,” project where he released the hit track “Rhythm of the Night,” with fellow Spanish star Marta Sanchez.

Now is the time to see what the hype is about. With a compilation for the world famous Global Underground series due out this month, this Spanish master of house will without question be bringing his “A” game to Club Glow.

Glow is part of Panorama Productions, the premier facilitator of DC Nightlife, hosting the best events in DC nightclubs since 1995.

Boris comes to Club Glow this Thursday at Lima!

Boris at Club Glow this Thursday at Lima! The rich heritage of New York nightlife is focused on the figure of the resident DJ: The homegrown jock that puts down roots in a single venue, bonds with its crowd, and explores the limits of a DJ set with his faithful. The DJs who flourish in this demanding environment go on to become folk heroes, not only in New York, but all over the world (see Larry Levan, Danny Tenaglia, Junior Vasquez).

DJ Boris started his ascension to these ranks in 2004, when the native of St. Petersburg, Russia took up residence at New York super club Crobar. It was the culmination of years of workhorse gigging at almost every club across the Big Apple. But it was more than that too: It was a movement that has shown no signs of fading.

Boris (birth name: Boris Inzhin) started moonlighting as a DJ while taking classes at the Institute Of Audio Research in New York. With a metronomic mixing ability and a penchant for expansive, groove-based power-house music, the jock quickly found work both in DJ and production booths, playing at clubs like Exit, and Roxy, and remixing artists like Janet Jackson, Jewel and Gloria Estefan. In 2002, his mix of Pink’s “Get This Party Started” hit No.1 on the Billboard Hot Club Play chart.

That energy and history is what’s coming down to Lima this Thursday!  Its going to be one hell of a show with BORIS at Glow!

Glow Thursdays at Lima are strictly 21+.  Get in free to this event with the pass from our site!  (ain’t that convenient?)

Ready for the Weekend? The King of Electropop is coming to Glow!!!

We know Calvin Harris is ready for the weekend. He’s a fucking rock star!! There’s no doubt about that. He was born to produce, to perform, to make millions go nuts. And how was he discovered? How was a kid from Dumfries, Scotland plucked from the UK and connected to fans throughout the world? Myspace of course! He did have two tracks signed in 2002 under another name, but it wasn’t until EMI and Sony BMG noticed his Myspace numbers that Calvin Harris the rock star came into being.

Nicknamed the “King of Electropop,” one listen to either of his chart topping albums and it’s easy to see why. Not too druggy, not too poppy but just right; Calvin’s fusion of wobbling synths and ultra fun vocals is the perfect recipe to indulge your sense of youthful exuberance. His style is without question the perfect refreshment. Imagine the hottest, sweatiest, most tired you’ve ever been. Close your eyes and feel how good that glass of ice water felt as it ran through your chest. That’s Calvin Harris.

He conforms to no one style. The man is precisely what the Dr. ordered for today’s brand of EDM. Obsessed with classifying genres and complaining that music is too cheesy or too minimal, people need to chill. They need to quit worrying about who they know, how cool they look, how super underground they are or what their status is as it relates to the politics of clubbing. People need to stop, smell the roses and have some freaking fun!

Come out to Fur this weekend and let Calvin Harris, the King of Electropop, remind you what it feels like to be a kid again.

Shlomi Aber at LIMA — Glow Thursdays!

Over the past Two Years Shlomi’s had the kind of impact usually reserved for inbound meteors, the reason for which is buried in a ground swell of genre-defying appreciation and support. Be it Sven Vath, Carl Craig, Pete Tong, John Digweed, Richie Hawtin or Francois K, all are championing this young prodigy; a comment taken from a recent Radio 1 interview provides a probable insight as to why his productions are hitting such a broad mark, “No matter if it’s hard or soft, it just needs to touch your mind, body and soul at the same time. That’s what I call a ‘Good Record’.”

Catch him LIVE on Thursday Night at LIMA Restaurant and Lounge!

Glow is held every Thursday Night at Lima Nightclub DC, and every Saturday Night at Fur Nightclub DC.

A candid interview with Marcus Schossow before his show on Saturday at Glow!

Marcus Schossow at glow washington DCIt’s very difficult to put this producer in a particular category on any level. Marcus Schossow exudes an independent, out-of-the ordinary personality with a forth right tongue with a facetious twist that had me laughing quite a bit. He seems like he knows what he wants at the age of 24, and doesn’t seem to care about the title of a DJ/producer but more is about anyone, from a music addict to the occasional club drifter, enjoying his tunes. Marcus has been producing since he was 14 yrs old and has turned quite a few heads from artists like Ferry Corsten, Pete Tong, Armin Van Buuren, and Sander K. Schossow got the project to do a remix for the classic track, Carte Blanche. This task was quite challenging for him as he was trying to find the right balance of the modification without stripping the original mix apart.

Speaking of Marcus’s distinctiveness, his first debut album title “Outside the Box” validates my claims to his progressive personality and way of thinking. This CD was experimental and Schossow admits himself that he doesn’t really like any particular genre or does what he believes in doing and not what others say. Maybe it runs in the family genes as to where Marcus gets his artistic outlet in music, “My dad is in a band and we always had a little music room at our place. I remember being you and was fascinated by the pads that came out of an old Roland synth. I guess that’s where the true passion started [for me]. If I wasn’t doing this I would probably be a chef or a writer of some kind. I need to be creative. “

Since his career has advanced full tilt, I asked what the apex of his career was so far, “I believe there are no peaks. It doesn’t matter if you play for 100,000 people or 80, you still have to deliver and keep your feet on the ground. I think the true peak for me is that I can be on tour and still keep up the studio work. Not many can do that. Hence, the 59487548 million ghost producers out there to various superstar DJ’s. “On that note, what is going on in the production world of Marcus? I’ll let him tell us, “The music side, I’ve got a new thing with Leon Bolier out right now which is going crazy in the charts. I’ve also got a new tune called “Genre This” which will be out in a months or so. And I’ve been testing it out a few times, and every time I play it people come and ask “WTF is this? [So] Expect a banger!” [Smiles]

Something that was significant for Marcus recently-was that his radio show, “Tone Diary” is now airing in Brazil. “Tone Diary been going on for over 2 years and I’m really happy to see that we have finally reached Brazil! Not only is it a wonderful place, but also an interesting place as there is both European and American influences on what’s going on there regarding the music scene. I can’t wait to show them what I have for them.” Honoring his New Year’s Resolution, Marcus also shares with me that he is working on a second album. For the WMC, Marcus is playing with Markus Schulz on Tuesday at the Official Opening Party and on Wednesday, with Andy Moor at the AVA Recordings party.

For Schossow many artists inspire him, “Trentemoller, the producers behind Sasha, Danny Howells, 16bit Lolitas, James Holden and the list could go on forever!” As for what’s in his CD player at the moment, his tongue in cheek response was “CD’s” at first, but then answered, “Right now, I’m digging the new mix CD from Anjunadeep.”

As many had heard about Marcus’s run in with Deadmau5, I wanted to know the full story behind the “deadrat6” story and if it was a publicity stunt. Marcus responded, “Hahahaha, you have to come with way more bribes to get that story off me!” So I bribed him with a copy of Deadmau5’s latest album, do you think he took the bribe? I guess we will see as he visits CLUB GLOW this Saturday, March 27th. For Schossow he anticipates his arrival, “Yeah, I’m super excited! First time in Washington! My good friend Casey a.k.a Breakfast lives around there, so I have heard loads about it!
