Chris Webby | Fri Jan 21st: “Champagne POP” @ Ultrabar

Chris webby at Pop at ultrabar nightclub dcSure, you popped bottles just a few weeks ago for New Year’s Eve DC, but why not do it all over again ?  Only this time, you’ll learn from your mistakes on New Year’s Eve and won’t black out and try to bounce across I-495 naked on a rusty pogo stick while belting out Justin Bieber songs at the top of your lungs. (it seemed like a good idea at the time)  Consider this your second chance to do it proper!

We’re popping bottles and rocking out this Friday at POP at Ultrabar with a FREE bottle of champagne with every table booked in advance!

Plus we’ve got a special guest set by CHRIS WEBBY! From a privileged upbringing in the Connecticut suburbs to… Hofstra University in Long Island to… president of the Ninja Turtles Fan Club (not really, but he’s a serious fan); Chris Webby defies all standards when it comes to being an MC.

Christian Webster went to private school, has ADD like whoa, loves women and according to him, needs rehab, big time. He enjoys blunts, 40s, sneakers, fitted hats and his little white poofball of a dog named Molly. Did we mention he has Simba from The Lion King tattooed on his leg? Like we said… defies all standards.  If you respect the grind, love to hate or are just curious how some preppy white boy from the burbs gets booked to do rap shows, you need to be at Ultrabar this Friday.

And of course, don’t forget the great DJs playing the best music on the 4 dancefloors throughout the club!  Its dancefloor insanity every Friday Night!

Main Floor: DJ Geometrix
Top 40, Mashups, Hip Hop

POP Floor (Vault): DJ Maskell
Pop Dance, Pop House

Bedroom (2nd Floor): NV & Bomba
Latin Music, Reggaeton, etc.

Chroma (3rd Floor): Lion L

From NY to DC nightlife, but he didn’t have to take the Chinatown bus… George Garcia arrived at GWU in 2006 on the back of a business degree, a pair of cleats and a mixer. He took no time in diving into the local house circuit, spinning at K Street Lounge, Eyebar, Lotus, Five and Indebleu.

Within two years he found himself running parallel with those Chinatown buses, working residencies in NY at Azza Lounge and D’or as well as spinning here in The District. It was around that time he hung up the cleats and let the bass take over.

2009 saw George spinning everything from a Playboy fashion show to a US Tennis Association after party. He spun celebrity parties for everyone; Wimer Valderamma to Wu-Tang; Sean Kingston to Ovi.

His style? Tribal house with a flare for pop. His latest ‘oE Summer Prescription’ mix contains tracks by Swedish House Mafia, Afrojack, Avicii, David Guetta, Yves LaRock, Steve Aoki and more!

{tab=Bio}
Hanging up his cleats and bidding farewell to the soccer field, George Garcia has found another way to entertain and impact masses of people. George has become one of the younger, more recognized DJ’s in the scene and is not taking his pedal off the gas anytime soon. Couple together a love and appreciation for all music with an adrenaline filled desire to bring joy to people, and you pinpoint what shape his performances and have gained him recognition.

George found his relationship with music early on in life by being an active part of his family parties and being raised in an energetic, happy environment that embraced music at all times. He was first exposed to music and Latin rhythms as a child. Having his father as the main source of entertainment at parties, whether it be dancing or making sure that everyone was always on their feet, taught George to always keep the people moving. At the age of 13 George began DJing alongside friends for graduation parties, sweet sixteen events, bar mitzvahs, weddings, and house parties. As George grew older he began to perform and travel to different places, performing at private events and competitions to develop recognition for the sole purpose of providing people with a reason to move and dance.

In 2006, George made the decision to attend the George Washington University and enroll in the School of Business. By moving to Washington D.C., he embraced a new crowd, a new environment, a new scene, and a new city full of listening ears. George wanted to take advantage of this and make an impact right away. He took his first steps in D.C. by spinning at venues such as KStreet Lounge, Eyebar, Lotus, Five, and Indebleu now known as STIR. The reaction and warmth from the crowd is what first impacted George and motivated him to produce the energy that he does with his music.

With clubs in his hometown of New York such as Pacha NY, Cielo, Kiss & Fly, 1Oak & Central being his main influences, George was presented with the blueprint for an enjoyable & energetic performance. The summer of 2008 triggered the success that George has been able to have. Holding his first residencies at Azza Lounge & D’or in New York presented George with the opportunity to travel between New York & Washington to perform. That summer is when George decided to put his life-long passion of playing soccer to pursue music professionally and to fulfill his long desired dream of being an artist. DJs such as Erick Morillo, Victor Calderon, DJ AM, Robbie Rivera, DJ Berrie, Richie Santana, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, DJ Enferno, David Guetta & DJ Camilo have been among the major influences in George’s career and style. These influences, along with his love for house music, feeding off the sensation of the crowd, his Latin energy, and addiction to drums have contributed to George’s unique style that have gotten him where he is today: able to make any crowd put in front of him move.

George has provided the entertainment for events such as Playboy Swimwear’s Fashion show, Inaugural Events during the 2009 Inauguration, Buzzing 4 Change –Cancer Fundraiser, and the USTA Tennis Final after party. George has performed for artists such as Sean Paul, Sean Kingston, Busta Rhymes, Wilmer Valderrama, Clinton Portis, the Wu-Tang Clan, Antawn Jamison, Michael Jordan, Rosario Dawson, and Alexander Ovechkin. George began his career in New York City in 2008 as resident at New York hotspots Azza and D’or & currently maintains residencies at the hip & trendy lounge La Zarza, as well as Su Casa. In Washington, he maintains residencies at renowned venues such as Josephine, KStreet, Current, Spot, & Stir. Since 2008, George has performed in New York at venues such as Hudson Terrace, Room Service, Greenhouse, Su Casa, Aspen Social Club, 49 Grove, D’or, Highbar, La Zarza, Corio, Azza, Anchor Bar, Central, & Cavo. In Washington, George has performed at Josephine, Napoleon, Spot, KStreet Lounge, Park at 14th, Stir, Five, Lotus, Andalu, Current, Eyebar, Donovan House Roof Terrace Champions, Left Bank, Heaven & Hell, and many more. George has also been mentioned in newspapers such as the New York Post and the Times Ledger. Along with being a deejay, George is also one of the original founders of, EZeeDJ, established in the summer of 2009.{tab=Video}

From: Sweden
Style: Big room, melodic house
Famous Tracks: Bromance/Seek Bromance, Alcoholic, My Feelings for You
Best Known For: Going from a bedroom producer to one of the world’s best in 2 years. Getting wasted off Jager at Club Glow!!!
DJ Mag Rank: 39

We just can’t help ourselves, and neither can you!! Avicii is back again and this time it’s in the main room at Fur!!!

In the few years Avicii has been producing, he went from mild-mannered Swedish upstart to being named breakthrough DJ of the year by Tiesto, Laidback Luke and Dirty South and now he himself has broken into the DJ Mag Poll at #39!!!

The last time he was at Lima was so unbelievably packed we had to book him at Fur this time around. There’s no way around it, he’s that good, the fans (you!) are that good and the music is off the charts!! AVICIIIIIIIIII{tab=Bio}
Avicii had only been producing a few months when his friends noticed that the productions were amazingly professional and that they had just witnessed a great talent being born. Avicii started out with doing a remix of the theme music for the Commodore 64 game ‘Lazy Jones’, but decided to drop it as it inspired him to make his own ‘Lazy Lace’ – released almost immediately on Strike Recordings.

Avicii was instantly fascinated with producing and spent many hours in his home studio creating one fresh tune after the next. Avicii never tried to get caught up in a specific subgenre of house, but wanted to keep the productions up to date and innovative. His music is inspired by the likes of Laidback Luke, Steve Angello and Tocadisco, but also Daft Punk, Eric Prydz and that of Axwell.

What Avicii wants is to create music for people to listen to and come to love, whether it be at home or in a dark nightclub. Avicii puts great emphasis on melodies in his productions and wants to appeal to fans of many different house music genres. Avicii signed on to At Night Management in May 2008 and within a month the buzz around them spread noticeably and they were recognized on labels such as Joia Records, Vicious Grooves and Ministry of Sound, just to name a few. By the end of that month, Avicii had already signed a big deal with Vicious Grooves in Australia and were head on target to soon explode over the entire globe.

5 sure-fire ways to avoid ruining your New Years Eve 2011

DC New Year's Eve Washington DC

OK: You’ve got your tickets, you’ve got your best outfit ready to go, shined your shoes, bought some booze, made dinner reservations, and planned your night to perfection.  What could possibly go wrong?  Everything.

Murphy’s Law is like a five year old kid on a temper tantrum, completely bent on breaking anything you’ve planned to perfection while wearing tiny shoes.  So here’s five sure-fire ways to keep your New Year’s Eve 2011 from turning into a total shitshow.

5. Get tickets early

Tickets to New Years Eve DC

The world favors those who plan ahead.  Why? Because nobody ever actually does it. That’s why tickets for New year’s eve in DC are dirt cheap in November, then go up in price as the date gets closer.  Of course, this shocking revelation won’t help you today, but perhaps in the future it will.

"It took 10 years, $3 million, and most of my hair, but now I can go back in time and save $14.00 on my New Year's Eve tickets!"

Getting tickets early also makes your life a lot easier because then you can make dinner reservations, book a hotel, and create other fun activities around the night because now the main part of your evil plan is already locked down.  And don’t worry about commitment issues, most people end up going with the first thing they think of anyways, so chances are good that your $30 won’t be spent in vain.

4. Carefully Choose your group

A big part of having a good time is having a good group to party with.  And while most of your friends will be perfect for celebrating New Year’s Eve, you have to recognize the bad apples and weed them out before they cause trouble and ruin your night.

When I say “bad apples” I really mean “bad drunks”.  But because its hard to criticize our friends, we’ll just lay it out straight and tell you to Leave these types of friends at home:

Lindsay Lohan Fails
"I love buying expensive and sexy clothes so I can puke all over them at the end of the night"

The hot party girl: She’s a total flirt, rips up the dancefloor at every club, is drop dead gorgeous, and absolutely loves to drink.  Best of all, she’s gained the reputation for getting smashed and hooking up with anything that has a pulse.  Sounds like a winning combination, right?

Don't even think about it.

Well, if you like babysitting unconscious chicks and wiping vomit off 5 inch stilettos, then by all means go right ahead and take her with you.  These girls can’t handle their booze.  Don’t be surprised if your “sure thing” turns out to be the key to perfecting your infant parenting skills.  The rest of us will be partying and celebrating while you brush the puke chunks from your hair.

And then there’s the belligerent drunk…

Not exactly the best drinking buddy. Especially if your enjoy Matzo and Challah.

There’s also the depressed drunk, the disappearing drunk, and the gassy drunk, as well as myriads of others.  The point of all this is know what type of drunk your friends are before inviting them out for a night on the town!

Speaking of which…

3. Know what type of drunk you are

“Judge not, lest ye be judged” So lets take some notes on how to make sure your friends won’t label you Mel Brooks every time you go out drinking and end up driving drunk, fighting with the police, and shouting anti semetic epithets from the backseat of a soiled police cruiser.

Lucky Clown
Vomiting wouldn't be so bad if all we puked up was sparkles, stars, and fucking rainbows all night.

Pace yourself.  New Year’s Eve is a long night, and if you are drinking the whole time, you will fail in an epic fashion.

Fortunately, you are an experienced drinker and know how much it takes to get yourself to that optimum drunkenness level.  And you also know that alcohol does not immediately take effect the moment you swallow it. You know that 1 beer = 1 wine = 1 booze.  So don’t “conveniently” forget that information the moment you step inside the bar.  Watch yourself.  Know your limits.

passed out drunk peeing street corner
You might end up like this winner who passed out while peeing and talking on the phone a couple blocks away from a now-closed DC club.

AND REMEMBER: Even when you’re drunk, you still know that its wrong to touch that girls butt, a bad idea to punch the guy who looked at you, and is probably stupid to hop on a ceiling fan and cluck like a chicken with a bottle in your ass.   Drunk is not actually an excuse for being a douche, and you know it.

2. Be prepared

Lets face it, stuff happens.  You can either be prepared to enjoy life or you can completely fail.  If you want to have a good New Year’s Eve, you’ll make some appropriate preparations.

Rednecks preparing for Y2K (courtesy: Life Magazine)
Y2K preparations not required nor advisable in 2010

Have a backup plan, because you probably didn’t adhere to #5.  And with your luck, the place you want to go will have a huge-ass line and you’ll wait outside all night in the cold listening to your girlfriend kvech about how cold it is.

"Yes, Dear"

Its also good to have:

  • Cash and credit card
  • The numbers for several different taxi companies (in case one is too busy)
  • Condoms, Breath Mints, Barf Bag, and a Freshly Charged Cell Battery
  • A good Dinner beforehand, then lots of water after

Dinner is important because food helps to slow down the absorption of alcohol, and water helps you to knock out one of the biggest factors of a hangover: Dehydration.  Well, that, and not drinking so much that you are puking like a freshman well into the next day.

"Boy, I haven't vomited this much since that time we had a drinking contest with ipecac syrup..."

1. Don’t drink and drive

So far you’ve avoided all the potential pitfalls and catastrophes for the night: You got your tickets, you ditched the skank you’ll end up babysitting instead of plowing, you took a good look at yourself in the mirror, and planned your backup.

You’re almost home free, but at the last second, one of those wicked roadside trees jumps out of nowhere and eats the front of your car, causing you and your friends to eat windshield.

"A few hours from now, I'll shit out a tiffany lamp."

Truth is, Drinking and Driving kills, and it will happen to you.  You don’t even have to be completely trashed to be too impaired to drive.  If there’s even any doubt in your mind that perhaps you’re too buzzed to drive, you should probably call a cab.  And thanks to the wonderful people at WRAP, getting a cab is FREE.

Dude. Its free. Why the hell wouldn't you?

Don’t wan’t to take a cab?  Plan ahead and have a sober friend come pick you up. Get a hotel room. Walk home. Sleep in your car. Hell, you can even take Metro if you’re desperate and have no other options.  They’re open till 3am on New Year’s Eve, and the buses are running on Sunday Schedule.

Granted, Metro has been pretty awful the past couple years, but look at it this way: At least you’ll burn off all those empty beer calories climbing up and down all the broken escalators.

Tom Toles, Washington Post
Darn Metro

Party smart this year.

The Moodswing 360 all-star is one of NY’s brightest stars behind the decks. His impressive resume includes events at Cain, 1Oak and Tenjune as well as being a favorite of Diddy. In fact, it seems as though the paparazzi can’t leave the guy alone.

Paris Hilton comes to his events, says hi on a red carpet in LA, and PS1 ends up front page news in all the celebrity gossip columns.  Brittney Spears climbs into the booth and starts making out with him and… well, she does things like that anyway.  A favorite of Lindsay Lohan and Mary-Kate Olsen, it’s clear that PS1 has quite the buzz going for him. Spinning since he was 12 and discovered at 16 by neighbor DJ Skribble, the NY fly  would prefer all that attention be directed on the party itself. All he wants to do is get behind the decks, throw a rager and go home to his sneaker collection at the end of the day.

Apparently Not Everyone Enjoys Being a Reality Star

Felony domestic battery and child neglect charges have been filed against 20-year-old Amber Portwood of MTV’s “Teen Mom.”

Police began investigating after a September episode showed her slapping, choking and kicking the 24-year-old father of her daughter.

Portwood was arrested Monday and jailed under a 24-hour hold.

Detective’s commented that the child neglect charges were the result of Portwood’s then-1-year-old daughter being present during two filmed instances of domestic violence.

Anne Houseworth of the Indiana Department of Child Services said dozens of viewers called the state’s child abuse hotline to report Portwood’s outbursts.

From: Canada
Style: Progressive/everything
Famous Tracks: Contact (featured on Tiesto’s ISOS 6)
Best Known For: Producing half the music you hear on every video game you play. Garnering support from top DJs across every style of EDM.

Listing Toronto and LA as home, Glenn Morrison can be found anywhere but the east and left coasts of North America. His style is so unique it has been supported by everyone from Armin van Buuren to John Digweed to Sven Vath. We’re pretty sure no other emerging stars in today’s scene can say that.

Wielding a close affiliation with Armada Music, Glenn has spun from the most exclusive yacht parties in the world to the largest, most reckless festivals anywhere. His ability to bring fans of niche dance music together under one roof embodies the ‘dance, love, music’ mantra of EDM fans everywhere.

Glenn’s music in fact, has been licensed by the likes of Armani, Mercedes, EA Sports, and Chanel!! EVERYONE loves this guy! It’s time you found out why!!

{tab=Bio}

Glenn Morrison is a true global music citizen, who is as comfortable tweaking the controls in the studio, as pushing the emotional envelope with an audience of thousands. Because, or perhaps despite, being a teenage classical piano competition winner (CMC, Kiwanis Music Festival, & ORMTA if you’re asking), he manages to combine his skill as a DJ with the craft of writer and producer.

Moving through the business at breakneck speed, Glenn is as comfortable in the studio as holding court behind the decks, and is supported in his production role with extensive plays from the creme-de-la-creme of the DJing community, including Armin Van Buuren, Justice, John Digweed, Laurent Garnier, Sasha, Tiesto, Sander Kleinenberg and Sven Vath, to name but a few. This skill in the production arena has meant numerous signings across a series of well regarded and ‘classic’ dance labels such as Sony Music, Universal, EMI, Armada, Bedrock, Platipus, Ultra, Ministry Of Sound, Poker Flat, Defected, Azuli, and many others.

His eclectic taste for all things considered ‘proper club house music’ has garnered him a variety of fans from varying core sound bases. From grainy screeching acid lines to lush ethereal progressive, this jack of all trades does it all and well. He is well known for his live mixes at such prestigious clubs as the Amnesia in Ibiza, Pacha in Buenos Aires, and the Roseland Ballroom in New York City, but he is equally at home putting together a set for the Dance Department or John Digweed’s Transitions radio show. The common denominator in all these cases being the ability to make a crowd dance and an eye for quality.

Glenn came of age in the dance arena whilst working at Toronto’s influential Release Records. This lead to the foundation of Morrison Recordings, which has gone from strength to strength with its close association with the Dutch powerhouse of Armada Music. As well as releasing a string of high-quality dance records through his label Morrison Recordings, particularly Glenn himself has been involved in numerous licensing deals with a number of global brands such as Hugo Boss, Chanel and Armani Exchange, Mercedes Benz, and top computer players, Blizzard Entertainment, EA Sports and Nintendo.

Despite an almost overwhelming workload of extensive touring in all manner of locations, from the small and uber-exclusive world of private yachts, oceanic house parties and secret desert gatherings to mindblowingly huge events with over 70,000 hyped-up fans in stadiums and all the amazing club venues in-between, Glenn still finds the time to remix for an illustrious range of artists – Pet Shop Boys, Craig Armstrong, the B52’s, and Bernard Sumner (from New Order).

Most importantly, he is as enthralled by dance music in all it’s emotional glory as he was when the needle dropped and the beats fired-up on his first slice of vinyl.
