- Atmosphere: The Buddha Bar chain is famous for its intimately lit, posh interiors. Patrons tend to be an upscale 25-45 more akin to sitting with friends than mingling at the bar or dancing. There are plenty of table/lounge areas with couches. A dance floor exists where the lounge, dinner and bar areas meet but is not a focus. The first time you walk into Buddha Bar you will be blown away by its eclectic elegance.
Venue Overview
The Buddha Bar chain is famous for its posh interiors inspired by Asian Temple, Portuguese Estate and Santa Fe influences with colonial style mahogany furniture. The décor consists of Chinese and Japanese artifacts, magic lanterns, elegant chandeliers and light fixtures housed under high ceilings in a large, airy room. In the back sits a giant Buddha, the signature of every Buddha Bar.
Each zone is meant to instill a feeling of weightlessness. Buddha Bar is lit as perfect as a lounge can be with its amber shading. The wood panels, ancient vases, oriental statues, mosaic, golden fabric and lacquer wood add to the prestige.
On the left hand wall of the venue, raised far above the floor sits an illuminated DJ booth where the bouncing flow of house music is mildly channeled through the lounge’s system. The space opens up towards the back and holds a dining room and the chain’s signature, a massive statue of The Buddha, sitting in the back.
Once extremely popular in NY, LA, Paris and throughout the world, recent years have seen Buddha Bar lose its trending status. There are exceptions, such as Barcelona and Lisbon, where actors, athletes and models come together.
Although the nightlife may be subpar when compared to her contemporaries, Buddha Bar DC’s menu features choice Asian fusion cuisines including amazing sushi, hot and cold dishes and an impressive saki menu.

Top 7 Things to do With Beer Besides Drinking
Sure, you normally stop at the corner liquor store and buy beer to drink it.. maybe even chug it at a frat party while standing on your hands but hey, we won’t judge.
No, these are not the top ways to get drunk by drinking beer but rather the other top things to do without the purpose of becoming inebriated just enough to make terrible decisions.
Without further adieu, the top seven things to do with beer besides drinking (in no particular order):
- Cure brown spots in grass and fertilize plants: Everyone has been there, especially if you’re living in a house off campus. The “grass” looks more like a minefield than something one would frolic upon.
Forgot to finish your beer and now it’s warm and gross? No problem, just dump it on the grass instead of throwing it out. The beer has a useful purpose: it will fertilize while helping to kill off weeds. This works on plants as well but if they’re potted use sparingly. - Highlight your hair: It’s true, soak your hair in beer and then lay out in the sun. Not only will it help give you those perfect golden tones but now your hair will smell delicious! Then again, if “slept on a frat basement floor” isn’t your scent of choice, consider thoroughly washing after. Apparently beer makes a great conditioner as well.
- Keep away bees: Nobody wants to have bees swarming around their outdoor party. There’s no real way to push them away, but what those citronella torches do for mosquitoes, beer does the opposite for bees. Place open containers of beer around the space but away from people. Bees like it just as much as humans so they should be preoccupied and hopefully no one will get stung.
- Beer pops!: If you’ve been to college odds are you’ve had a tasty beersicle at least once. Ice cold beer is perfect on a hot day right? So beer that actually is ice must be better! Consider sprucing up your creation a touch by adding more than one type of beer to the mix. One could get drunk this way theoretically but it’s more likely you’d suffer of a brain freeze first.
- Cook with it: We’re definitely not cooking experts, but there are many amazing dishes that include beer in the recipe. Chicken, bread, fish ‘n chips, sausage, rice.. it really holds true that everything is better with beer.
- Remove Stains: Have a tough stain that won’t come out? Try club soda and then a light beer. After that, a regular carpet cleaner should do the trick.
- Polish wood furniture: Just had a bit of a party? Is the only thing left half empty flat beer and wood furniture that has lost all it pizzazz? Good news! Those half empty flat beers will help revive the wood. Just gently rub it (with a cloth) on the wood surfaces that need some sprucing up.

Weather permitting, Fur’s heated outdoor patio provides even more music, a space for smoking cigarettes and the option to smoke hookah.
Venue Overview
Fur was DC’s mega club before Echostage became the new home for GLOW. The building was once a fur factory, hence the name. With lines known to stretch both sides of the entrance, around the building and down the block; promoter guest lists and bottle service are recommended for fast, easy entry.
Upon entering the club, patrons are provided multiple options. Immediately to the left is a snack bar complete with food, drinks, glow sticks and everything else required to enhance your experience. Straight ahead is a massive bar and to the left, VIP booths. Around the bar is the Martini room, boasting a dance floor, raised DJ booth and private VIP box. Beyond is a doorway leading to the Mafia Room on one side and coat check and patio on the other. The Mafia Room’s dance floor gives way to a staircase leading to a raised bar/lounge area. The patio hosts a stage, DJ booth, tiki bar and roped section of benches and tables to enjoy hookah.
If you’re looking for the biggest room in DC clubbing, stairs to the right of the main entrance lead into the sunken main room, capable of holding 2000+ people. DC Odyssey Cruise: The most “sophisticated” brunch cruise on the Potomac
Last week, my fiancee and I celebrated 7 years of love, caring, and putting up with each other’s BS, by going on a brunch cruise around the Potomac on the critically acclaimed luxury dinner liner, The Odyssey.
Hailed for its size, luxury, and elegance, it seemed like the perfect way to mark the occasion, with panoramic views of our beloved home of Washington DC. It also features award-winning wines, live entertainment, and an “inviting dance floor.” It looked like the perfect way for two twenty-somethings like us to celebrate and relax, so we bought our tickets at a total cost of $160, and set out a few days later on a beautiful summer morning.
Getting on the boat, we were greeted by a wonderful and friendly staff that welcomed us with bright smiles and a congratulations on our anniversary. (We checked the box for “celebrating anniversary” when we made the reservation.)
We were led along the elegant ship, windows wrapping from the floor all the way over the top like a greenhouse, delicate glassware and shiny silverware rest on fresh tablecloths, anointed with full table settings to give the full sense of luxury. The buffet was in the middle, with a wide range of good breakfast foods, fresh fruit, and even a fondue fountain.
We were shown to our seats, and offered complimentary champagne and mimosas, and given our regular drink orders as well. The food was pretty good, I got a typical array of breakfast foods (waffles, french toast, bacon, bacon, bacon, and more bacon). All passed my inspection for taste and freshness, and were at least as good as IHOP (that’s a compliment, I really do love IHOP. Especially after a drunk night at the club, but that’s another story…) My fianceé’s said her food was excellent too, but I was too focused on my heaping plate of bacon to pay attention to whatever she ordered. mmmm bacon…
We sat back and relaxed as everyone else got on. We were probably the youngest group there, as most people were in their mid 30’s or older, but we still fit in because we were well behaved and properly dressed for the semi formal occasion. I wore a nice casual button-up with pressed black slacks and dress shoes, my fiancee wore a lovely black dress. We didn’t feel out-of-place at all among the families all dressed in their best Sunday attire, and the older couples in their polos, slacks, and sundresses. It looked like things were going to be pretty cool.
Just then, a guy with a dirty tee, cargo camo shorts, and a pair of sneakers walked on.
Shortly thereafter, a woman donning her 8-inch wedges and a short dress that barely covered her ass strutted on to the ship. Looking more like a “working girl” than a “dressy-casual” cruise patron, she boarded the ship with her date who was also inappropriately dressed for the occasion with his jeans with a white tee shirt and street shoes.
And there were a few others that failed to pass muster, but still got on anyways despite Odyssey’s supposedly strict dress code. Kinda made me feel like an asshole for dressing up nicely in long pants and proper collared shirt despite the blazing heat outside.
DRESS CODE:
We recommend dressy-casual attire, such as nice slacks and collared shirts. We prefer no jeans, shorts, tank tops, halter-tops, athletic shoes or flip-flops be worn on any cruise.
— Odyssey Cruises
Annoyed, we went outside to enjoy the beautiful weather and the views and smells of the Potomac. Of course, I had forgotten just how wretched the Southwest Waterfront stank, just like rotten Lunchables. It reminded me of my days working in a shit factory.
Still, the views were nice. National Airport, 14th Street Bridge, The Watergate, Georgetown Waterfront and Memorial Bridge. All the stunning views you see while sitting in traffic on Rock Creek Parkway or Ohio Drive. And at 12mph, we were going about the same speed too.
It was all going well until the DJ opened up the dancefloor. With all the advertisements we saw before going on the cruise telling us about the fantastic live entertainment and DJs, we were excited to see what they had to offer.
Of course, that excitement turned to epic disappointment pretty fast when his first song rang out across the ship’s speakers: The Electric Slide. It was at that moment that I knew I had to get off. Now. Sadly, there was no escaping the torture as we were far from shore, floating in the middle of the Potomac where it meets the polluted Ana-toxic-a river. Really it was a difficult choice between standing through pure acoustical torture or swimming 1/2 miles to shore through fecal matter bacteria and syringes.
The decision to abandon ship seemed even more tempting as the DJ then blasted the Cha Cha Slide, followed by the Cupid Shuffle, and capped with most awful fucking song in the history of the world– YMCA. With no real escape from the terrible music, I felt like a prisoner at Gitmo. Couldn’t they have just waterboarded us instead?
As the cruise finally reached port at the end of the two hour ride, we were left with mixed feelings. Sure, the place was lovely and the service was great, but the music was dreadful and the ride was nothing impressive for a couple of young professionals like us. Certainly not worth the $160 total price tag for a nice breakfast for two. This is probably something my parents might enjoy.
Next time we feel like taking a breakfast cruise down the Potomac, we’ll just order IHOP carryout, rent a canoe from Jack’s Boathouse in Georgetown, and crank DJ Saam‘s latest mix on our MP3 player as we float down the Potomac.

This is an All Ages Event!!!
A juggernaut of DC events. Deadmau5 returns to Washington DC to spin at The Fillmore Silver Spring for 2 days of madness on 9/21 and 9/22.
The effect Deadmau5 has had on dance music is something of legend. After being named breakthrough DJ/producer of 2007 by Armin van Buuren and Tiesto, Deadmau5 entered the top 100 in 2008 at #11. He has only climbed since then, now sitting comfortably at #4 (behind Armin, David Guetta and Tiesto).
His stage shows are known for their immense grandeur, highlighted by custom LED stages and one-of-a-kind lighting displays. More of a technological instrumentalist than DJ, the Mau5 utilizes the most current DJ technology to sample, remix, edit and even produce live on the fly. And let’s not forget about his signature mouse helmet!
His mainstream appeal is a mystery to some, as his production and performance style have maintained their integrity by remaining full of bass-heavy electro synths. Deadmau5 is one of the very few artists that both casual mainstream listers as well as hardcore music snobs love. The music and experience are just that good.
