Guests of Eden find themselves surrounded by sophisticated LED displays, jungle-esque decor (it is the Garden of Eden, after all) and upscale clientele. Although a narrow venue, Eden provides a unique experience, especially to those lucky enough to make it to the rooftop, which brings a piece of South Beach to DC nightlife.

The DC nightlife summer kicks off this weekend with a flurry of events! Thursday 6/3/11 there’s Fedde le Grand at Glow @ Lima Lounge. Friday 6/4/11 experience DJ Enferno live at PoP @ Ultrabar Nightclub or check out the Jadakiss Birthday Bash at Fur Nightclub. This Saturday you’ve got Glenn Morrison spinning at Glow @ Fur Nightclub, DC’s biggest party; Ladies Night @ Ultrabar and of course, Eden Nightclub’s 1 year anniversary event!

DJ Saam’s May Mix

DJ Saam May MixTowards the end of every month DJ Saam releases a mixtape consisting of the hottest tracks of the month. Of course, where would a DJ be without a unique sense of style, and perhaps humor? Hence this month’s mix starting off straight into Coasters’ – “Yakety Yak.” Released in 1958, no-one has probably heard it since 1973 but that’s okay! Saam accomplishes what many would consider impossible and transitions straight into a current hit released in 2010: “Mr. Saxobeat” by Alexandra Stan. From there it’s a house-heavy mix with a lounge feel and the intensity of mega-club fame.

Be sure to catch DJ Saam at Lima on Tuesday, Barcode on Friday, and Ultrabar on Saturday.

Kingston in Critical Condition After Jet Ski Accident

21 year-old pop star Sean Kingston was involved in a jet ski accident in the early evening on Saturday May 29 in Miami.

With very little information available to the public, here is what we know for sure.

  • Alcohol is NOT believed to be a factor in the accident
  • Kingston was with an unidentified female passenger
  • The accident occurred around 6pm
  • Kingston crashed into a bridge connecting Palm Island and the MacArthur Causeway in Miami, FL
  • Sean and his companion were rescued by a good Samaritan and transported by Miami FD to Jackson Memorial Hospital
  • He was initially listed in critical condition

A statement from Sean Kingston’s representatives stated that “Sean Kingston was in a accident today. No further details are available at the moment. He and his family thank everyone for the well wishes.”

As Summer approaches, we caution fans of DC nightlife and everyone in the area to exercise caution when out on the water. Here are some safety tips from jetski.com for those of you who plan on jet skiing this season.

  • Don’t operate a boat or other Jet Ski watercraft if you have been drinking alcohol or using drugs. It’s dangerous and illegal.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and watch for people in the water and other boaters.
  • To avoid injury, turn off the engine when individuals are in the water.
  • Don’t stand in or on a vessel while it is in motion.
  • Minimize distractions while driving a watercraft, just like you would as a car driver.
  • Don’t overload the vessel. Always secure loose items in the boat.
  • Watch the oil, temperature and other gauges for signs of problems.
  • Check the engine compartment to see if the battery is secure and the cables are tight. Check fuel lines for leaks or signs of wear or cracking.
  • Check the vessel’s fire extinguishers to make sure they are not expired.
  • Miami-born, raised in Jamaica, the grandson of a Reggae great, Sean spent parts of his youth in prison (age 11 for breaking and entering) and living in a car (while his mother served time for identity fraud). Through the struggle the young star was able to shine through and show the world his unbelievable talent. Making waves with his 2007 hit ‘Beautiful Girls’, Kingston went on to drop ‘Me Love,’ ‘Fire Burning,’ and ‘Face Drop,’ co-write fellow Miami singer Jason Derulo’s ‘Watcha Say,’ and discover Iyaz.

He has upcoming releases with DJ Khaled, Bow Wow, T-Pain, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Wyclef Jean, Akon and Dr. Dre. He recently released ‘Eenie Meanie’ with Justin Bieber, who has been very vocal about his support to #prayforseankingston as has fellow Caribbean pop collaborator Nicki Minaj.

Kingston and Bieber have a mixtape slated for release this year.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Sean Kingston’s family and hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.

Segmented into three areas with a retractable wall on the patio/dining room, bridged-bar and VIP booth-laden lounge; Cities is a playground for DC nightlife regulars and high-end lounge goers.
    Venue Overview

The original Cities Washington, located in Adams Morgan, catered to DC nightlife’s high-end crowd. The main attraction was the quarterly changing of the menu and decor to reflect the most chic cities in the world. Years after closing its doors, the concept of Cities Washington has been reborn. Every few months the menu, visuals and certain elements of decor will change to reflect that quarter’s highlighted city.

For Summer 2011, Cities will be highlighting the culinary and aesthetic pleasures of Athens, Greece; Havana, Cuba; and Shanghai, China; with Washington, DC being a year-round feature. Current highlights from the restaurants small-plate-style menu include Goat Cheese Fritters (tempura-style), Yellowfin Tuna Tartar, the Cuban Sandwich (a classic!) and the Chesepeake Crab Cakes.

Cities features a 2-sided bar which bridges the lounge and dining room/patio. Here we see the bar, dining room in the distance and patio beyond the glass wall. The lounge is behind us.

A massive downtown sidewalk leads to an equally large outdoor patio, complete with plush couches and lowered tables. With off-duty officers serving as security, patrons can rest easy knowing the concept of cocky bouncers has been smashed. A retractable wall provides a glimpse into Cities’ sleek dining room, which is rather difficult at times to find a seat. Needless to say, reservations are recommended if you plan on dining.

The dining room leads up to a gorgeous, 2-sided bar where the liquor is found in the center of the bartenders’ work space. Well lit and very clean, it’s one of the more attractive bars in DC lounges. While one half of the bar serves the patio and dining room, the other half serves one of the most trendy lounges in DC. A sunken room with more VIP booths than standing room, Cities is a defining ‘bottles and models’ DC lounge. The LED screens wrapping the walls, beautiful women, well-dressed men and hefty bar tabs exemplify this to the fullest.

    Parties
    • Thursday – Saturday features gorgeous people, bottles of champagne and vodka, house music and an open-air venue, weather permitting. It’s high-end and low-key.

    • Atmosphere: Elegance at every turn. Maintaining an air of historic Washington, Ozio is located in 2 combined row houses and fuses an Art Deco style with the colonial feel of exposed brick. Intimate yet spacious. Around every corner patrons will find hidden lounge areas for a quick escape. With all the different levels, it’s hard to nail down how many floors the venue is, which we love. At the top of Ozio sits a vibrant rooftop servicing two bars, VIP, more lounges and a high-end crowd that came to have a good time
    Venue Overview

From the outside, Ozio seems to be a small, seemingly regular bar/lounge. The beautiful, well-dressed, diverse crowd waiting to get in says otherwise. The first floor allows patrons the luxury of smoking at the bar, provides ample booth seating and features the bar tending expertise (and trickery) of Ozio’s owner. A walk-in humidor cements the suave appeal of the venue. It’s the calm before the storm above.

As patrons ascend a wide, wrapping staircase, they are met with the first of Ozio’s many splits. To the left is a high-end cigar bar with a menu consisting of Arturo Fuentes (incl. Opus X) , Ashtons, Cohibas, C.A.O.s, Macanudos, Monte Cristos, Romeo & Julietas and a host of others, including the Padron Anniversario. It’s a level frequented by diplomats, businesspeople and young professionals alike. At the end of the bar and around a corner exists the first of many hidden lounges at Ozio. A descending staircase leads patrons into the 2nd row house, revealing exposed brick, artwork and spacious yet intimate couch settings.

From intimate nooks to a debaucherous rooftop, Ozio has it all!

Should you hang a right when arriving at the second floor, you’ll find a dance floor, bar and DJ booth at the far end of the room, and a gateway to the rooftop above. This gateway, another of Ozio’s levels, features a large table area and a mini staircase leading to another low key, spacious lounge area.

The proper stamp allows party goers access to Washington DC’s newest rooftop bar. Encased in an ever changing spectrum of club lights, scattered trees and two bars, Ozio’s rooftop provides a completely different atmosphere to the bars and lounges below. Featuring house music and outdoor bottle service, the Ozio rooftop club is DC nightlife’s newest gem. Packed with an attractive and refreshingly unpretentious crowd, it’s a great place to spend your weekend hours. Moving across the roof you’ll be met with more of Ozio’s famous elegant lounge and VIP areas. They are inside but feature open air hallways to the roof.
