{tab=About The Black Eyed Peas}
In an era of an ever-changing music industry that’s defined by diminishing expectation, where a “successful” career means having one, maybe two hit records; The Black Eyed Peas are a glorious exception. They have become one of the best selling, most popular and most innovative groups for over a decade. They have transformed themselves from a beloved backpack rap troop from the West Coast Underground into fully-fledged, massive global superstars whose music can be heard in any country around the world.

They’ve done this the right way: creating albums that are more innovative than the last; which has translated into each new album being more popular than the last. And in following this pattern, The Black Eyed Peas – will.i.am, Fergie, Taboo and apl.de.ap – are releasing their sixth full-length album, The Beginning.

The Beginning follows on the heels of 2009’s The E.N.D., BEP’s most popular and most creative album to date – and the album that reaffirmed their singular status as global music icons. The E.N.D sold more than 11 million copies worldwide; it entered the Billboard Top 200 Chart at #1 outperforming their previous cd, Monkey Business– an unheard of feat in this day and age. It yielded 5 Top 10 singles (the first album to do so in 20 years), spent an entire year in the Billboard Top 200 Chart, and earned the group 3 new Grammy Awards, for a total of six Grammy Awards they’ve won. In all, they’ve sold 29 million records worldwide (plus over 30-million digital tracks). They’ve sold over 3-million tickets and headlined over 300 different tour dates in 29 different countries. Simply put, there doesn’t exist another contemporary artist or group who can come close to their sustained success.

New Album from David Guetta w/ Crazy Collaborations!

David Guetta is set to release his latest album, Nothing But the Beat, at the end of August 2011!!

Disc 1

Collaborations w/ Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Snoop Dogg, Usher, will.i.am, Akon, Chris Brown and more!

Disc 2

“100% electronic, no vocals,” according to the French DJ/Producer.

The first two singles, “Where Them Girls At” featuring Nicki Minaj and Flo Rida and “Little Bad Girl” featuring Taio Cruz and Ludacris, were both released this summer!

Guetta, the DC nightlife favorite who chose Club Glow as his favorite worldwide venue of 2010, hopes to finish Nothing But the Beat in early July, admitting “I’m a little bit late to tell you the truth.” You can watch a live 30-minute interview with Guetta by Billboard here!

David Guetta also stated that Nicki Minaj will be featured in a second track on the album, titled “Turn Me On.” While she may be known for her “crazy raps,” said Guetta, she will actually be featured on this track as a singer. “The world is gonna be shocked.”

Although Guetta isn’t crossing paths in the studio with music icons U2, Britney Spears or Madonna, Nothing But the Beat is expected to be one of the biggest pop-house crossover albums ever. As one of the biggest pioneers in this mainstream dance genre, the two-time Grammy Award winning Guetta has been and will continue blazing trails for electronic dance music in America!

On 5/19/11 Guetta once again returned to Glow, just to make sure DC nightlife was still as crazy as he remembered 🙂

Venue Overview

To ensure the best experience possible, Shadow Room offers guest list, special occasion, and membership options via shadowroom.com. Walk into Shadow Room and you will instantly recognize that a unique experience is in the near future. Instantly recognizable is a minimalistic approach at modern luxury. While keeping a design highlighting clean lines and avoiding clutter, minimalistic (in this case) doesn’t mean less, but so much more. Ornate chandeliers adorn 22-foot ceilings for a luscious experience while intelligent lighting and an impressive sound system keep it interesting. Attention to detail is paramount and is even observed in the material chosen for VIP couches (a leather specifically designed to be danced on).

Tablet Bottle Menu
A unique tablet by Nteract at your VIP table ensures you will never get thirsty, or bored. (Website Screenshot)

Generally, when a club is packed, ordering a drink can be a hassle at best. Luckily, Shadow Room has a solution which you’re unlikely to see anywhere else in the city. Ever been seated at a VIP table with only a few drops left and no server in sight? Simply access the tablet and order your next bottle or drink: now that’s a solution. The drink ordering system is so sophisticated that it includes an extensive bottle and drink menu so you know exactly what you’re getting before you order and you can do so without screaming for bottle service. It’s also easy to see how much you’re spending. While it can’t keep you from getting crazy, an itemized bill available at all times is a nice reassurance. Dull moments are unlikely but many tables feature technology innovations including PS3 and XBox, satellite TV, and others. Wanted to scream at the DJ repeatedly to play your favorite song? Well, they probably wouldn’t like that but, feel free to request away remotely straight from the same pad you ordered drinks one. Not seated at a table? Customers can still order drinks and more via their mobile device here. A text is sent when your drink is ready and any breaks in partying are kept to a minimum.

Shadowroom Venue

While innovation and good looks are important to any venue, sometimes the “vibe” is most important. Shadow Room attracts an upscale crowd that knows how to have a good time. It should be noted that there is a focus on tables which occupy a large portion of the space, but that’s essentially part of a premium lounge’s DNA. There is still ample room for dancing and the crowd really knows how to party. Go to kick back at a table with a few friends or go to dance like the end of the world is coming. Either way, Shadow Room will fit your needs.

Parties
  • Thursdays feature Hip-Hop.
  • Fridays bring mashups and more including House, Top 40, and Hip-Hop with DJ Phlipz.
  • Saturdays mix it up from the regular with Top 40, Rock, and Hip-Hop brought to you by DJ George Garcia.

Lupe Fiasco Calls Obama Terrorist. Bill O’Reilly Disagrees.

What’s wrong with this picture:

Lupe Fiasco calls US President Barack Obama a terrorist.

Bill O’Reilly defends our liberal leader.

On June 20, hip hop artist Lupe Fiasco went head to head with Fox News personality Bill O’Reilly on “The O’Reilly Factor.” Fiasco defended his statements calling President Barack Obama a terrorist. Before reading further, check out this video!

The incident highlights a longstanding trend in music where artists face off against Big Brother.

Depending on your political views and attitude towards government, perhaps Lupe Fiasco emerged the victor in this mini-debate. Maybe the tried and tested O’Reilly factored in for the decisive victory.

Lupe Fiasco, known for his anti-establishment views, is hot off his March album release of Lasers and is currently promoting his upcoming Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album. Despite his strong political opinions, Fiasco has said in the past that he does not vote in U.S. elections or involve himself in U.S. politics, which he calls “meaningless.”

While the views of Lupe Fiasco may be controversial, the fact that he conveys his message in song and then takes time to address reporters demonstrates a media maturity that numerous other artists in the industry lack. It’s not like he pulled a Kanye West and blurted out on live TV that, “George Bush doesn’t care about black people!”

Paris Hilton Working with House DJ/Producer Afrojack

Paris Hilton has been in the studio with Afrojack working on tracks for her upcoming album.

She is also working with other “really dope DJs” in an attempt to fuse pop and house. The new Paris Hilton album should be out in 2011.

This unnamed release will be Hilton’s second studio album. Her first was Paris, released in 2006, featuring the popular reggae-pop influenced “Stars Are Blind.”

The Paris Hilton and Afrojack collaboration highlights a continuing trend of pop, hip hop, and other mainstream genres exploring the possibilities of electronic dance music. This has been evident as artists like Lady Gaga, Pitbull, Katy Perry, and Bruno Mars continue to blossom and produce dance floor hits.

Paris Hilton’s experience with house DJs goes beyond Afrojack

The hotel heiress was involved in an incident with Swedish House Mafia’s Steve Angello at the 2009 Winter Music Conference in Miami:

Hilton made a request, Steve refused, she got mad.

Steve’s bodyguard had to forcefully remove Hilton and her posse from the DJ booth, creating much buzz via social media.

According to Hilton, Angello’s music, “was not even danceable and was frankly giving me a migraine” She claims she wanted him to spin Bob Sinclair or Daft Punk. Angello stated that Hilton repeatedly asked him to play hip hop and was getting on his nerves.

Perhaps now Paris realizes that if she wants a career in music she’ll need a lot of Afrojack, Dutch House and Autotune!

Hef’s Runaway Bride – It Can Happen to Anyone

hefner_harris_limo

It’s Summer and everyone’s getting dumped like they’re going out of style. Hot weather and the summer life mean out with the old and in with the new; that’s exactly what it means for Hugh Hefner as well (although not by choice).

Five days before what was to be an extravagant wedding (at the Playboy Mansion), Crystal Harris called it off. Initially, TMZ broke the story that her and Hef had a nasty argument; the two-and-a-half years they dated were over and the life they were building together would come to a shattering end. Crystal was sure to set the record straight explaining to Ryan Seacrest: “It was mutual between Hef and I.” But was that really setting the record straight?

It seems obvious by now that the two didn’t have a massive fight, but in reality the breakup was not so mutual. While the (ex) couple has remained civil, Hefner can be seen venting his sadness on Twitter. His Tweet announcing the two would not be getting married was simply the statement: “The wedding is off. Crystal has had a change of heart.”

runaway bride
Halfway through the most recent run of Playboy a sticker was added "Runaway Bride in This Issue!"

But was it for everyone’s best interest or was the motive a bit more selfish? The breakup was not only just days before their wedding, but coincided with the release of Crystal’s new single “Club Queen.” It’s hard to ignore the obvious media attention she could expect surrounding the breakup. What do you think?

Since then, Hefner was mostly worried about their dog Charlie, who he seemed to genuinely miss. In a happy turn of events, and perhaps to highlight how amicably the breakup turned out, Crystal brought Charlie back.

The good news is Hugh can move on quickly, and who can blame him? He’s surrounded by beautiful women and “happy to be single.”

Make sure to get in style and hopefully you won’t be next.
