David Guetta did it!! House music is popular because it deserves to be, not because major record labels and top 40 radio stations tell us so. Thanks to David, people could in theory mention Ferry Corsten, Sven Vath, Flo-Rida and Akon in the same sentence. Imagine 5 years from now, the # 1 MTV (USA) video might belong to Mat Zo, Swedish House Mafia or Sander K. None of it would have happened without David Guetta and his sexy french house. To be honest, it’s already happening. ‘Club Can’t Handle Me’ is currently #9 on the Billboard Hot 100!

The last time Guetta spun Glow he nearly blew the roof off Fur Nightclub. And hey, with Will.i.Am on opening duties, did you expect anything less? A special Thursday night, 21+ performance; This event will undoubtedly sell out, so get your tickets now!! DAVID GUETTA IS COMING BACK TO DC!!!! WOOO HOOOOOO!!!!! (sorry, it’s hard to contain the excitement)

Bio

As an internationally respected artist/producer/remixer/DJ, DAVID GUETTA’s track record has been impeccable for nearly two decades. Now, in 2010, his career is reaching new peaks: “When Love Takes Over” featuring the lead vocal of multi-platinum pop-R&B songstress Kelly Rowland, took off as a world-wide smash, posting its first national 1 charting in the U.K.; he is also the track producer of Black Eyed Peas’ rousing new 1 single, “I Gotta Feeling,” in whose video clip he makes a cameo appearance. And Guetta’s fourth studio album, ONE LOVE, released August 25th on Astralwerks, is an ambitious, ingeniously crafted album that sets forth nothing less than a bold and beautiful manifesto for the global pop and dance audience. Witness, for example, the phenomenal success of current radio smash-hit “Sexy Bitch” (a.k.a. Sexy Chick) feat. Akon.

“Making this record with so many talented artists was such an amazing experience and the end result is an album infused with all the best flavors of contemporary pop music that will appeal to such a broad audience both on and off the dancefloor,” noted Guetta.

Significantly, it was Guetta’s own defining and assured musical viewpoint as a DJ and producer that attracted the A-listers who make ONE LOVE one of 2009’s most diverse and star-studded album projects. Kelly Rowland, for example, moved to tears at first hearing the instrumental work-in-progress that became “When Love Takes Over” on the dance floor at Guetta’s famed F*** Me I’m Famous party in Cannes, greeted him in the DJ booth, and was later given the track to write to. will.i.am, similarly, had first approached Guetta to contribute to a club-inspired album planned by Black Eyed Peas (the just-released Energy Never Dies) – and their collaboration snowballed to include two tracks on ONE LOVE: the out-of-control “I Wanna Go Crazy,” and “On the Dancefloor,” joined by apl.de.ap, a fresh evocation of the hip-hop/house fusions of the late 1980s.

Throughout the agenda-setting ONE LOVE, Guetta serves up a body-rocking, all-embracing blend of hip-hop, soul and electro – an audacious fusion that’s been sorely missed ever since rap and dance audiences became polarized at the turn of the 1990s. With a global following of nearly five million celebrants at over 200 DJ performances just last year attesting to his musical authority, it’s no wonder that Guetta has emerged as a catalyst and a curator of an exciting new musical hybrid, his magical producer’s touch bringing out the best in all his collaborators — even as accomplished a hook-meister as Akon, who sings the album track “Sexy Bitch.”

A rare dance album spotlighting its vocalists as well as its beats — each singer cast flawlessly in tracks tailored to their individual qualities — every one of ONE LOVE’s vocal collaborations is marked by arresting hooks, inventive musical development, and compelling humanistic messages. Notable among the guests who leave true personal stamps on each song is Chris Willis, the longtime lead vocal collaborator with whom Guetta has shared no less than seven top 10 chartings around Europe, who lends his larger-than-life, testifying vocals to the funky house of “Gettin’ Over” and “Sound of Letting Go.” Recent Grammy winner Estelle imbues the title track with a rich, luminous emotional grace; and Kelly Rowland turns in another vibrant and melodic lead vocal in “It’s the Way You Love Me” worthy of the most stirring of Donna Summer’s dance anthems.

Breakout stars Kid Cudi (“Memories”) and Novel (“Missing You”) also share surprisingly personal stories in a dance format; and, rounding out an album full of high points, Wynter, fresh off a worldwide hit with Flo Rida (“Sugar”), stars in the erotically charged “Toy Friend”.

DAVID GUETTA’s name is synonymous with the world’s greatest house and dance music, and with the parties that bring that music to life. Since releasing his first pioneering single “Up 1 Way” in his native Paris, France in 1992, David Guetta has sold over 2 million albums worldwide and over 3.2 million singles. He has been France’s No. 1 club DJ for a decade, and was named the world’s No. 1 House DJ in 2008. Attesting to his global appeal, Guetta is also a bona-fide YouTube star, holding the record for “most watched” of any artist in the electronic music genre with over 32 million views of his 2007 classic “Love Is Gone”.

In Europe, Guetta has previously released three chart-topping albums (Just a Little More Love, 2002; Guetta Blaster, 2004; Pop Life, 2007). Guetta and his wife Cathy are also famed for staging the mega-sized dance parties, F*** Me I’m Famous, for tens of thousands of house, electro, and dance-loving fans from Ibiza to Miami, New York, London, Barcelona and Paris. They have released four best-selling compilation packages of the same name.

Turkey Day in our nation’s capital. Who better to give thanks to than two of the men responsible for putting DC on the electronic dance music map.

Grammy Award-winning, DC-native Sharam is currently ranked #73 in the DJ Mag Top 100 poll. As a member of Deep Dish, he spent years in the top 10. He’s an international dance music icon and has been one of the three largest contributors to DC’s place in the global dance music hierarchy.

Founder of Glow, Pete Moutso put DC Clubbing on the map. The original Glow resident, he has opened for everyone; Armin, Ferry, Markus, Tiesto, et al. He was the second promoter in the United States to book Armin van Buuren, signing him to a residency in 2002. He has managed tours for Armin and Tiesto. When asked who his favorite DJ in the world was, Benny Benassi smiled and pointed at Moutso. Although ‘retired’ from DJing, Moutso has graced the decks on 2-3 occasions this year.

If there was ever a time to give thanks within the DC Clubbing community, this would be it.

Bio

Known simply by his first name SHARAM to the world of popular culture, Sharam Tayebi is a Grammy award-winning producer, songwriter, recording artist and DJ. His 18-year career has brought him to the world’s largest music venues and in the studio Sharam remains one of only few dance acts who can effortlessly navigate between the nocturnal world of dance music with underground hits like “Don’t Say A Word” and “Be The Change” while scoring Top 20 Hits internationally with “PATT (Party All The Time)” and “The One” featuring Daniel Bedingfield. He is also the driving force behind the legendary Yoshitoshi label in Washington DC using it as a vehicle to promote newly discovered talent from DC and around the world.

Born in Tehran, Iran, he has called our nation’s capital his home since 1985. And it was there, in the early Nineties, where he met Ali “Dubfire” Shirazinia by chance. They would later form the DJ duo Deep Dish putting the nation’s capital on the map for electronic dance music. Their reputation was cemented with their critically acclaimed debut artist album, Junk Science, followed by their second album, George Is On, which featured the vocals of Stevie Nicks. Simply stated by Rolling Stone magazine, “The Deep Dish sound personifies cool.”

In their time together, the duo re-worked classics from the likes of Madonna and The Rolling Stones to Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson into international club hits, and also crafted the musical backdrop for VERSACE haute couture fashion shows in Milan and Paris. Deep Dish received scores of accolades and awards for their remixes including The Recording Academy recognizing their achievements with four Grammy® nominations and finally the Grammy® Award in 2002 for “Best Remixed Recording” for Dido’s “Thank You.”

None of this would matter unless Sharam’s music connected with people. From performing in front of thousands at the infamous Burning Man event to the most influential venues around the world, dance music purists go crazy for his musical choice and mixing technique, while mainstream audiences recognize Sharam (Persian for Calm City) for creating soulful dance music filled with striking vocals.

After a bountiful career as part of Deep Dish, Sharam became a solo artist in 2008 with the release of his UK top ten hit “PATT (Party All The Time)” — a rigorous rework of an old Eddie Murphy record which was produced by Rick James — followed by his collaboration with Daniel Bedingfield for “The One” and finally his debut double album, Get Wild in 2009. Always with the ambition to be diverse and progressive, Sharam collaborated with the likes of P. Diddy, Tommy Lee, and Chuck D., and even included a Patsy Cline vocal sample to complete this record with its Morricone-inspired Spaghetti Western theme. A serious movie buff, Sharam also made his directorial debut for the album’s single “She Came Along” featuring Kid Cudi.

Now, as Sharam prepares to set the stage for the overall aesthetic of his next album Speed, the avid car enthusiast will be driving a 1970s Dodge Coronet Super Bee Hemi — an all-American muscle car — in this year’s Gumball 3000 Rally. Musically he extends his passion for iconic automobiles with a series of three EPs being released under the “Mach” moniker inspired by the 1970′s Ford Mustang.

One Don one week, another Don the next. From Steve Angello to Axwell, Glow gets the best at their peaks. Peaks that have no end in sight from what we can tell!!

Sitting at #14 in the DJ Mag poll, Axwell is the highest ranked member of Swedish House Mafia. His headlining set at Day 1 of Electric Zoo this year was unbelievable. Don’t believe us? Check it out now on Glow Radio!!

If Angello and Ingrosso are the more edgy, techy pieces of SHM, Axwell is without question the melodic, big room chief. Tracks like ‘I Found You,’ ‘Feel the Vibe,’ ‘It’s True,’ and the brand new ‘Nothing But Love for You,’ illustrate this point to a T.

Combined with Angello and Ingrosso, with Laidback Luke and Dirty South getting their backs, the Swedish House Mafia and its extended family are going to be ruling the world of house for years to come.

Bio

The king of the sun-kissed summer anthem; the mogul behind one of the hottest imprints on the planet; a superstar DJ who’s never lost the giddy enthusiasm of a fledgling clubber; and arguably the most successful and influential remixer of the 21st century. By anyone’s standards, Axel ‘Axwell’ Hedfors is a giant of modern-day dance music – and he’s only going to get bigger.

Axwell’s steady ascent into clubland aristocracy began back in 1995, when the eager Swedish teenager began teaching himself the arcane science of drum-machines, synthesisers and sequencers, and started releasing his very first tracks, as part of techno duo Quazar. By 1999, he’d moved towards a housier sound, as evidenced by his debut solo single, Funkboy. An impressive calling card, it paved the way for a steady flow of increasingly confident underground hits, until Axwell struck crossover gold with 2004’s glorious ‘Feel The Vibe’.

An unstoppably uplifting and instantly memorable track, the original version of ‘Feel The Vibe’ (featur¬ing vocalist Errol Reid) dazzled every corner of clubland, before an overhauled version (with new vocals by Tara McDonald) gate-crashed the UK top 20. 2005′s ‘Watch The Sunrise’ (featuring Steve Edwards) proved to be another unstoppable anthem, as was his 2006 collaboration with fellow Swedish House Mafioso Steve Angello, Supermode’s ‘Tell Me Why’ (released via Ministry Of Sound, it reach #13 in the UK and #3 in the Netherlands). But it was 2007’s rave-referencing ‘I Found U’ (#6 in the UK charts) that really cemented Axwell’s status as a producer who could marry artistic innovation with strong com¬mercial appeal – a rare thing indeed, in any genre of music.

“I do feel pressure to maintain a certain level of success,” says Axwell. “That’s a weight that lies on my shoulders – but all that pressure comes from myself. I want every tune to be better than the last one: to sound stronger, to be phatter, to work better in a club. So it’s pressure, but it’s good pressure. It pushes me forwards, creatively.”

“For me, it’s all about asking questions of myself. Would I play this? Would I play it during peak time? Is it the phattest thing I’ve ever heard? Is it the most futuristic shit out there? I question the track – and myself – the whole time. I’ve got a good expression: the goose-bumps never lie. If you get goose-bumps during the production stage, then you’re on the right track…”

Axwell’s Midas-like touch – along with his peerless technical ability – has made him the go-to guy for artists looking to get their latest release reworked into a storming dancefloor juggernaut. Madonna, Nelly Furtado, Moby and Pharrell Williams have all come a-knockin’, while productions such as his masterful reworking of Hard-Fi’s ‘Hard To Beat’, his sublime remix of The Temper Trap’s ‘Sweet Disposition’ (along with Dirty South) and of course his unstoppable version of TV Rock’s ‘In The Air’ have gone on to become as big as – or, in many cases, bigger than – the original tracks.

Part of what makes Axwell such a sought-after producer is his dazzling stylistic agility; he can switch between house, techno and electro (and everything in-between) without even breaking a sweat.

“Axwell has an innate feel for the dancefloor,” says long-time fan Judge Jules, “but his versatility is even more impressive. Too many producers get caught in a trademark groove, becoming a prisoner of their own perceived style. Axwell’s material is so varied, but it never fails to rock – big time.”

You only have to take a look over the back catalogue of Axtone, Axwell’s much-admired label, to see his enthusiasm for a dizzying range of styles and sounds. From the banging to the beatific, Axwell and his roster of artists – which includes Dirty South, TV Rock & Prok & Fitch amongst others – really have managed to please all the people, all the time.

Things have been comparatively quiet in terms of Axwell’s own release schedule for the last 12 months or so – his biggest tune of recent times has been ‘Leave The World Behind’, the spectacular collabora¬tion with Laidback Luke and his Swedish House Mafia cohorts Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso. However, there’s a very good reason for this usually prolific producer keeping a relatively low profile, track-wise.

“I have been holding back with the productions for a bit,” says Axwell, “and that’s because I’m currently trying to finish off my debut album. It’s going really well. I’m used to just working track-by-track, but making a whole album, and making the whole thing sound fresh – all the tracks, all at the same time – that’s been a challenge, but a really fun one. And that’s why I didn’t release that many tracks in 2009 – although, what I did release kept me going for the whole year!

“My album will contain a bit of everything that I’m about – which is a bit of everything! It’s going to contain a lot of songs that I’ve worked on throughout the years and maybe not finished, but I’ve thought, ‘That’s a great song – I really need to finish that some day.’ And that day has come – now it’s time to finish them.”

Album or no album, Axwell has still found time to personally send the planet’s biggest clubs into utter gleeful meltdown. DJing remains a real passion of his, a way to stay connected with clubbers and their ever-changing tastes.

“I try to keep a balance,” he says. “I make sure that I get enough time in the studio, so that when I DJ I have new tracks to play. That keeps me excited. I want to play those tracks and test them out, to see if they work in a club. That helps me to keep my edge.”

“I’m the sort of person who never lets their guard slip: I always want to do the best possible job. And if I ever do feel like slacking off, I just remind myself: Listen man, you have the best job in the fucking world! I should be laughing and having fun the whole time I’m DJing! I do try to keep in mind how lucky I am.”

All those delayed flights, mislaid bags, early-morning taxis and late-night hotel check-ins have paid off: in 2009, Axwell whooshed up six places on DJ magazine’s esteemed annual Top 100 DJs survey, with his legion of fans voting him in at #14. His rise through the rankings can probably be part-explained by the Swedish House Mafia’s acclaimed and enormously popular run at Pacha, Ibiza, throughout summer 2009. Every Monday night found Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso paying to packed dancefloors and ecstatic reactions.

“Swedish House Mafia,” explains Axwell, “is kind of a bonus thing on top of our individual solo careers. It’s the ‘extra everything’ on a hamburger. I guess we might get together and do another season at Pacha, out in Ibiza, plus maybe some more shows in the style of the ones we did at Brixton Academy in November last year. They were so much fun – one of the high points of the year for me.”

Whatever direction the music takes Axwell in next, you can be sure that he’ll be closely followed by admirers and imitators alike. “During the past 15 years,” says sometime Axwell-collaborator Bob Sinclair, “there are only a few guys who have really influenced the dance-music scene with their sound and the way that they produce. Axwell is one of them.”

How long have you been waiting to see Steve Angello? Hmmm?? Yeah, he spun at Ultrabar about a year and a half ago, but that was before Swedish House Mafia had released their first official single, ‘One.’ It was right when ‘Show Me Love’ dropped. Back then he was #63 in the DJ Magazine Poll. Now he’s #20, Swedish Mafia is the hottest ticket in the world and Steve is a Don, The Boss Man, Mr. Big Cheese.

Along with Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso, the three of them combine to form the Voltron of house music, Swedish House Mafia. There is no one doing it in the underground and the mainstream simultaneously like they are. Whether they’re working with Pharrell or Eric Prydz, they’re coming at dance music from all angles.

Their latest release as a group, Miami 2 Ibiza is too dope for words. Steve’s new track ‘Knas’ will be in everyone’s track list for the next 5 months.

Bio

Armed with a slew of new CDs and enough confidence to rebuild Hadrian’s Wall, Steve Angello totally destroyed the Space terrace at the inaugural Ibiza opening on May 31st – but in truth, the momentum has been building on Steve Angello’s music for some time now. First up was arguably his globe-straddling Moby remix of ‘Raining Again.’ Then it was ‘Tell Me Why’ with Sebastian Ingrosso and ‘Be’ with Laidback Luke. And then ‘Be’ returned in spirit (and b-line) for ‘Show Me Love’ with original vocalist Robin S and Laidback Luke in tow, smashing clubs and Top Ten charts into tiny pieces everywhere it was dropped. “It’s a huge track as we all know,” says Steve Angello. “It’s just one of those tracks. It’s done a lot of good stuff for me so I do a new bootleg of it every six months. The best thing about it is everywhere I go, it’s the one track that everyone wants to hear. I may have played it 60,000 times but people still want to hear it!”

Since we last looked, Steve Angello decamped to Los Angeles where he’s been living at least 50% of the time, boosting his creativity and inner confidence to all-new levels. “I love playing in The States, it’s a scene that’s ready to explode,” he states. “They’re getting kind of bored of American DJs so I go one week a month to keep them interested in us. The scene in LA is huge – we used to play to 1500, now it’s closer to 4000. I play at Mansion and Avalon in LA and Pacha in New York. I love Pacha New York too – it’s Erick’s club! – they got the place up on its feet and it catches that typical New York feeling. You also remember every face on the dance-floor.”

But L.A. is Steve’s new home and despite having played pretty much every club on the American circuit, he says Avalon remains his favourite club spot. “The vibe in there is just ridiculous! It’s the only club that goes past 4AM. When the light comes in at 6AM, I still have 4 hours to go. And then I can jump in my car and go home.” Needless to say, music is Steve’s main priority in 2009. “You know, I think if you come to LA and want to work, it’s important… they’re tired of producers doing one track and disappearing – I’m a workaholic!

But when he’s not spinning or driving, there’s still much to do. When he wakes up, Angello is still very much the A & R supremo for Size Records, wherever he lays his hat that night. The label is now firing with releases by himself, Kim Fai, Funkagenda and Marcos Schauss upcoming this year alone. “Marcus is doing well, he’s a great DJ and he plays a little darker than me which is great,” says Steve. “I also signed my brother Antoine to the label. He’s 19, he’s young and fresh- he’s like me when I was 19, he’s really determined – I gave him a taste of the DJ life and he loved it!” Well, who wouldn’t? “At least I can steer him the way I want him to go,” reasons his big brother. He’s also working with Funkagenda – “such a great producer! He’s already done a couple of pieces for the label,” states Steve. “I love having him at my parties.” Steve is ready for the Mafia summer to begin. Mondays at Pacha with Seb and Axwell – what more could he ask for? “It’s so good to be having our own night and finally we got it. Every Monday will be like New Year’s Eve!”

And what about Steve’s own album? “I’m doing the Mescal kid album which is more techno – I have a Mescal kid track coming out on Sci- Tec, a dark techno track I really love but you know, I’m still making three new tracks a week! But my album is going to be really house and techy…. I got a couple of vocals in the bag but it’s too early to say.” And then of course there’s the small matter of the upcoming N*E*R*D* collaboration they’re about to finish. “We met in Sydney. We started to talk and ‘Be’ was playing in the background and Pharrell said he loved the track. We had four days off and that’s when we nailed it. I think everything is moving towards electronic dance music. Everybody is interested in what we are doing.” And what of the song, Steve? “It’s a very simple vocal – there are some really nice harmonies and then it has a banging bassline.” And what did Steve learn from N*E*R*D*, we wonder? “The guy is a workaholic and you can definitely tell. He doesn’t drink or party, he works 24/7… I was surprised how hard he could focus. And I thought I worked hard.”
