Real World New Orleans to invade DC at POP @ Ultrabar 9/10

You know what happened when MTV put eight strangers in a house in Washington’s D.C.’s Dupont Circle last year.

But what will happen when we bring cast members from “The Real World: New Orleans” to D.C. for a wild night on the town?

Jemmye Carroll loves to party, wants to legalize marijuana, has a preference for black men and enjoys casual sex with no commitment. She’s from a conservative Southern Baptist community in Mississippi and has six tattoos.

Eric Patrick’s a stand-up comic who considers himself a “fast learner” and holds a job at the State Department. The ladies think he has dreamy eyes and is a ladies man. He says he’s perfected the art of juggling … women.

What will happen when we take this duo out of New Orleans, feed them complimentary booze and give them a license to party?

Find out at POP on Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at Ultrabar.

Semi Precious Weapons + Lady Starlight at POP! :: TUESDAY 9/7 @ Ultrabar

Join Semi Precious Weapons and Lady Starlight for an After-Party following their appearance with Lady Gaga at the Monster Ball! Pop Nightlife brings you this special Tuesday Night Event at Ultrabar Nightclub on 9/7!

Semi Precious Weapons is the group that “splits the difference between AC/DC and Queen, fronted by the fabulously fierce Justin Tranter.”  It’s hard to argue with a band who expresses such an impassioned sentiment.  And audiences across the country ain’t fightin’ with the raw power and electricity that pulsates throughout a Semi Precious Weapons performance.  Their message is clear- music can be dangerous, dirty, and fun.

Lady Starlight is renowned the world over for being the inspiration, original creative partner and DJ for recording artist, Lady GaGa. A key player in Lady GaGa’s creative team: Haus of GaGa, she has collaborated with the singer since 2007 on everything from fashion styling, onstage performance concepts, and set design. LADY STARLIGHT filmed the singer on her 2009 Fame Ball Tour for her behind the scenes, online tour diaries. She is currently performing around the world on Lady GaGa’s 2010 Monster Ball Tour, opening the nights festivities with her rock’n roll DJ set/go-go act.

Travie McCoy to host POP @ FUR *Sat* 9/4

Travie McCoy wants to be a billionaire, so freakin’ bad — and, we think he’s on his way.

Tall, dark and handsome, this talented ladies man was born and raised in Geneva, New York, where he met Matt McGinley in his gym class. The duo bonded over a shared love of music and started a band that later became Gym Class Heroes, which burst into the mainstream in 2007 with the No. 1 hit “Cupid’s Chokehold.”

Now, he’s topping the music charts with his own song. “I Want To Be A Billionaire” [watch video].

Standing 6′ 5″ (see, we said he was tall), with loads of charm and charisma (and a hot collection of tattoos), Travie is one of music’s most recognized celebrities, which is why it’s no surprise that he’s dated several famous gals.

His latest main squeeze was Katy Perry — who he blasts in one of his new songs.

In it, Travie rants about Katy supposedly being with another man and calls her a ‘little brat.’ The song, “Don’t Pretend,” also features lyrics like, ‘Little miss teary eyes you have no reason to lie to me. I finally realize why you can’t look eye to eye with me. And I knew about him the whole time — the hotels, phone calls, psshhh the whole nine.’

Look out, ladies! This guy’s a fireball — who is raking in the big bucks. And, not only does he have one of the hottest new singles on the airwaves, he’s hot and single himself.

See Mr. “Billionaire” in person as POP does FUR — a special Saturday POP edition on Sept. 4, 2010!

With his recent remix of Kaskade’s ‘Dynasty’ landing safely in the hands of Ryan himself, Glow resident Roberto Gonzalez is steadily climbing the ladder to fame well beyond our DC EDM community. Roberto’s music library is disgustingly huge and well equipped for throwing an amazing party. His knowledge of the DC crowd and what we like is unparalleled.

Jon Deke bangs out every time he spins. His ability to evenly flow from disco-influenced house to thumping electro is a testament to his prowess as a DJ. His opening sets for artists like Calvin Harris, JFK and Don Diablo prove that he can get the crowd moving with ease and keep them moving with every track he spins.

Yes siiirrrr… Sander Kleinenberg incorporates visuals into his DJing like no other. He hooked up with Pioneer to launch the SVM-1000 audio-visual mixer. And in his humble opinion, VDJing is the future.

“Video DJing to me is one of the new ways to get across what I’m doing. The art of DJing has been elevated to a whole new level, and combining all these disciplines is exciting. It keeps me inspired.”

Sander has been gearing up to release a new album this year, as he spent most of 2009 in the Pioneer laboratory. So far he has released 2 singles, “This is Our Night” and “Rock You All Night Long.” They’re effing MONSTERS!!! He also just re-released a remix package of his classic track ‘The Fruit.’

The last time Sander was at Lima Lounge the roof nearly came off. We decided our best option was to have him at Fur. Besides, with his unique VDJ set, Fur is the perfect venue. {tab=Bio}
Superstar Dutch DJ and producer Sander Kleinenberg has built his international reputation on an ability to create different atmospheres, for myriad crowds, at venues all over the world.

Kleinenberg is not only an artist who declines to stick to a single, easily defined sound, he also utilizes more than one medium to create a night out. Long at the forefront of integrating video imagery and other visuals in his VDJ sets, Sander includes Pioneer among his sponsors for these innovative performances. The manufacturer has been involved with outfitting select clubs around the world with the SVM-1000 audio-visual mixer (which Kleinenberg helped develop), DVJ players, plasma televisions, and other custom video installations exclusively for his performances.

Integrating music and images single-handedly requires sharpened skills and on-the-fly invention. “Now, in the process of DJing, I am in control of another dimensions. The thought processes are not just about music; there is a visual element as well.” Which allows his to shape his identity, and stimulate crowds, in a host of fresh ways. “This is a whole new way of looking at what you do creatively. In the end, that is very challenging. It makes you more versatile as well. I love keeping on my toes.”

Sander will continue to show off his aesthetic flexibility at residencies around the world during the course of the year, including Pacha in Ibiza, Avalon in Los Angeles, Ministry of Sound in London, and Paradiso in Amsterdam. Each of these gigs affords him unique creative opportunities; the exclusivity and luxury of Pacha elicits different impulses from him than the storied, historic Avalon, pristine sound quality of the Box main room at Ministry of Sound, or the iconic pop temple status of Paradiso for example. Which is how he likes it. “Residencies are like laboratories: You can go in and experiment. As you get to know the sound system and the clientele, and become comfortable, you have more faith in each potential change of direction.”

Kleinenberg is also hitting the summer festival circuit, with performances scheduled at Global Gathering, SW4, Exit Festival, Extrema Outdoor, Lovelands and more to be announced.

So his calendar is jam-packed. But for Sander, there is always still more to do. The head of his own Little Mountain Recordings label, and a producer of sublime original tracks that elude being easily date-stamped, Kleinenberg plans to tap into all the facets of his creativity for his debut artist album, which he has been working furiously in the studio to complete over the past year with the one and only Josh Gabriel. “I am working on a definitive document,” he hints. “I want to create a real landmark, both visually and musically, where I say, ‘This has been my journey over the last twenty years… and this is where I am now.'” {tab=Video}
