Bio

Genius can be measured in a number of ways: ability, originality and accomplishment. In Michael’s short career he has managed to touch on every cornerstone, leaving proof of his musical competence at producing big room, progressive and tech-house tracks, along with a discernible motivation to better the quality of music being distributed. This has not gone unnoticed, with DJs like Pete Tong jumping at the chance to document Michael’s rise, featuring him on shows such as Radio 1’s 15 minutes of Fame.

From Argentinean & Guyanese decent, he was born and raised in Hackney London which he still calls home running his studio from there. Classically trained in a range of instruments at an early age provided Michael with a catalogue of creative skills including the keys—which he learned to play at the tender age of 3—guitar, drums and trumpet, practically making him a one man band. When not in the studio messing around with Cubase developing his craft, he would be found at Pimlico’s Trinity Music College where he contracted a love for musicality, often using his spare time orchestrating with the percussion section of the London Symphony Orchestra. Earlier achievements include the Michael Woods Remix of Energy 52’s Café Del Mar which held pride of place on the acclaimed Chilled Ibiza Gold Album and is a prime example of the ever growing popularity of the Woods marque. It has never ceased to be continually played and is still considered a classic among DJs and fans alike.

Collaboration’s with the likes of Chris Lake on Domino’s are proof of his skillful production abilities. These, however, are not the sole examples of his talent; many established artists have hired Mr Woods to renovate their sound into a style which emulates Michael’s musical vision. His remixes include Feels Like A Prayer on Toolroom Records, Deadmau5’s Strobe on mau5trap, Deadmau5 & Chris Lake with I Said as well as the more mainstream artists: Adele, Nate James, Xenomania signing Gabriella Cilmi, The Temper Trap, Way Out West and more recently, Estelle (I Can Be A Freak). Each have turned to Michael to help send shock waves through the music world with their sound, upping his status as a respected artist, track-after-track. His ability to rework music with an exceptionally sharp ear for quality production has left him in high regard with many artists and labels across the industry, with direct Tweets from the likes of Tiesto hailing his skill as one of the many examples.

Diffused Music has become his major priority since he founded the label in September 2008. Using it as a platform from which to promulgate his perfected sound, the label has released numerous acclaimed records: Yemba, Dropzone and the Envolver EP. As Michael’s career continues to escalate he has lined up countless events to build on his current success, touring with Deadmau5, setting a number of UK based gigs and also earning a coveted residency spot at one of the most sought after places in the clubbing realm, Cream’s Amnesia in Ibiza. Along with Mark Knights Toolroom Knights events and Pete Tongs Wonderland, the Woods fan base and clientele continues to sky rocket. It is apparent that this is not the height of his creativity, but rather a preview into what assuredly will be an illustrious career.

Style: Breakfast: Trance, Techno | Eco: Trance

Famous Tracks: Breakfast: Air Guitar, The Air Between, Dubfire – Roadkill (Breakfast Remix) | Eco: Borealis, Lost Angeles, And We Flew Away, Tonight is Forever, Drowning

Best Known For: Breakfast: Coming to a Glow party, sticking a CD in Ferry Corsten’s hands and getting a deal with Flashover. Eco: Having something like 12 Tunes of the Week on Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance.

When Casey Keyworth handed Ferry Corsten a CD at a Glow party a few years ago, he never thought he’d end being known as ‘Ferry’s protege.’ He’s spun A State of Trance parties, shared the stage with the best in the world, and the best have played his tunes across the globe. As of late Breakfast has taken his productions to the next level, abandoning his tried and true trance sounds to experiment with everything from techno to dub step and even hip-hop. But don’t worry, the man is still as deeply routed in trance as anyone.

“I seriously don’t know how he does it… Everything this man is touching is turning into pure melodic gold.” – Armin van Buuren on Eco

Eco has had a crazy amount of music featured on Armin van Buuren’s radio show. The NY local has been tearing the underground scene of the city that never sleeps apart for a while now. A huge fan of Pink Floyd and psychadelic rock, Eco brings the spaced out, trippy elements of the 60′s and 70′s acid into the driving, melodic-themed trance of today. Signed to Armada Records, Eco is on the cusp of releasing an artist album which is guaranteed to receive support from everyone.

BREAKFAST

LIKE THE MOST IMPORTANT MEAL OF THE DAY, DJ BREAKFAST CAN’T BE IGNORED.
CASEY KEYWORTH IS TAKING TRANCE DEEP, AND INTO UNCHARTED WATERS.

In a world saturated with over-indulgent trance melodies, generic drum kits and recycled beats, Casey Keyworth, aka Breakfast, leads a pack of fresh and innovative DJ/producers who are unafraid to challenge the established rules of dance music. His unique sound of lush, melodic and deep trance has caught the attention of the world’s tastemaker DJs and fans alike – so much so that Ferry Corsten took notice and made him one of his staple Flashover artists. (Currently the number seven DJ in the world according to DJ Mag, Corsten cites Breakfast’s track “Remember” as his Tune of 2009).

In a short time, Breakfast has achieved what most aspiring producers consider “living the dream.” Hailing from Annapolis, Maryland, Casey Keyworth took to the electronic music scene early-on, frequenting nightclubs in nearby Washington D.C. It took several years of learning – with various tinkering on MTV Music Generator and Fruity Loops, among other virtual studios/Digital Audio Workstations – to get it right. But gradually, the aspiring producer developed a polished sound and was able to distribute his output through reliable channels.

LAST NIGHT A DJ SAVED HIS LIFE

In the early ‘90s, electronic music fans in the United States were hard-pressed to find their favorite music on retail store shelves. Rather, the then-underground sound was relegated to urban nightclubs and specialized record shops. When he was 10 years old, Casey recalls listening to a late night dance music show on 99.1 WHFS; the alternative rock station would broadcast life sets from nightlife venues. He was hooked. “Holy crap!” he exclaims. “I found something that was beyond everything.”

Daft Punk beamed down the radio waves one night and Casey thought it was “way ahead of its time” – he resolved to own his own copy the next day. He went to the local music shop and asked, “Dude, what is this song that goes, ‘Around the world, around…’” to which the store clerk replied, “Oh, that’s Daft Punk. You want ‘Homework.’” He picked up the album and couldn’t stop listening to it.

He then uncovered his favorite genre after listening to BT’s track “Dreaming.” To Casey, it sounded very euphoric. He was so blown away by the song and considered it a next step up from Daft Punk. While putting the two – Daft Punk and BT – on the table together is like comparing apples and oranges, Casey had nonetheless found his niche and started to learn music production.

The Breakfast moniker came about when Casey was 16 years old. He had a self-described “ghetto studio setup,” consisting of his computer and a synthesizer (Yamaha CS6X). He would get up in the morning and on the weekends – whenever he had time to make music – and, instead of eating breakfast, would go straight to the studio: music for nourishment.

Fast-forward to 2005 and a 17-year-old Casey is going out way past his bedtime to see Ferry Corsten perform in Washington, DC. Being underage, and with strict US laws requiring nightclubs to enforce 21-and-over entry, he attended with his mother. Amidst flashing lights and a booming sound system, by chance Casey was able to slip Ferry Corsten a CD sampling of his music. “I think Ferry was stunned because I gave him a CD of nine different songs,” he remembers. Shortly after, on his 18th birthday, Casey received a phone call – Ferry Corsten wanted Breakfast to release music on his label, Flashover Recordings.

In 2006, Breakfast’s inaugural release was “The Air Between”; he hasn’t looked back since. Ferry began booking him as his supporting warm-up DJ. “I get to go on his tours – US tours, usually,” Casey says. Their relationship flourished as Ferry began to see a lot of potential in the young up-and-comer. “Being so young and so talented can only lead to a bright future,” Ferry says, “so I felt like the guy needed a push in the right direction.” He made Breakfast his exclusive, upfront artist. The exposure has provided Breakfast with a specific kind of music industry access that eludes most other DJs and producers – who you know really does count.

As he powerfully learned the ropes, soon enough he was ready to steer them. Flashover afforded Breakfast the chance to establish his own sound; the time came for him to explore other music styles. Casey started his own Flashover sub-label – and Moodymoon was born. “I wanted to release some music that wasn’t exactly Breakfast, but still had that good sound to it,” he explains. While he still releases big trance tracks for Flashover, Moodymoon is all about the deeper side of progressive house and trance.

The world’s top DJs regard Moodymoon as a first-rate label with a reliably good sound. From Sander van Doorn, to Above and Beyond, to M.I.K.E., to The Thrillseekers and Armin van Buuren, et al., each of Breakfast’s releases continues to receive tremendous support. Now in its fourth release, Moodymoon is building momentum and keeps churning out top-quality music by Breakfast; the label also gives him a chance to introduce other outstanding artists whom he has met while touring.

CRAFTED PRECISION

“I create energy with tension,” Breakfast responds when I ask him about his production style. For the now-21-year-old musician, it’s all about building layers on top of layers to build the pressure. “A lot of people will say my music sounds older because I don’t do the kick drum rolls,” he explains. “I just drop the beats back in.” In order to strike the delicate balance that distinguishes the Breakfast sound, he ensures that no musical element overpowers the other. The result is perfectly laid-out songs with dancefloor panache, combined with cinematic overtones and moments of romantic, introspective bliss.

Breakfast & Schossow’s “They Came For Us” (remixed by Breakfast) is a prime example of Casey’s ability to convey subtle elegance and driving dancefloor energy. Galloping bass is enveloped by deep, plodding bass with building percussion lines that pad the way for some warm, squelching acid riffs. The escalating tension is broken by an inspired melody that doesn’t overpower the composition – rather, it accents it, creating a sublime experience of emotion and uplift.

“I’m really trying to bring out very warm visuals,” Casey describes, then offers perceptible reference points, such as a sunset or the changing leaves in autumn. Breakfast Pres. Loomer “Take Me Back” shows off Casey’s keen ability to craft a growling dancefloor stormer, with its futuristic, take-no-prisoners keyboard arrangement, shiver-inducing refrain and techno-samba drum beats. It’s this kind of versatility – without straying too far from the trance genre – that is making Casey a key global player in the dance music market.

Gaining recognition from his peers such as Tiesto, Armin van Buuren and BT (who commissioned Breakfast to remix one of his tracks, “The Unbreakable”) has been a real eye-opener. He can now look at these luminaries and ask, “How does this sound? Is this good?” and be confident that he is receiving valid feedback. And now, the most important form of approval is coming from a growing base of dance music fans that frequent his gigs around the world. “Interacting with the crowd is probably my favorite thing and finding that comfort zone for them is perfect,” he states. Breakfast plays with an in-the-moment approach, finding that niche rhythm that the crowd likes and working it for them.

With many more DJ gigs slated for the next year (in far off places such as Asia, Australia and Russia), we can expect great things from this upstart DJ, label head and producer.

ECO

“I seriously don’t know how he does it… Everything this man is touching is turning into pure melodic gold.” – Quote ‘Armin van Buuren, ASOT441′

Originally hailed by Martin Roth as “New York’s uncut diamond” and a new addition to “the elite league of the upcoming young rebelling producers,” the young American producer Eco, is no stranger to the electronic dance music scene. With his hit tracks “Light At The End”, “Tonight Is Forever”, “Borealis”, “And We Flew Away”, and “Lost Angeles” all reaching Tune Of The Week status on Armin Van Buuren’s A State Of Trance radio show, his name has slowly but surely been making waves all over the electronic music globe, receiving consistent support from names as Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Markus Schulz, and many more. Taking inspiration from bands like Sigur Ros, Pink Floyd, and Arcade Fire, Eco produces a hybrid version of progressive trance that closes the gap between the indie rock movement of today and the electronic music of tomorrow. As much as it is electronic dance music, it is also music that closes your eyes and paints colorful abstract images in your mind: pure inspiration. His signature sound has spread to music lovers of all genres and backgrounds, with complex melodies that reach their core.

From: USA (NY, NY)

Style: house

Best Known For: Spinning for the stars

The son of famous toy manufacturer Russell Berrie, David grew up with the opportunity to do anything he wanted… including nothing. He took piano and violin lessons early on, eventually landing at something a bit cooler, turntables.

Inspired by NY icons like Louie Vega, Danny T, A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul; by 16 Berrie had honed his skills and was sneaking out of the house to spin at small clubs in Manhattan. From there it was cake.

Been There, Done That: Having performed events for Diddy, Giselle, GQ and Esquire, Berrie’s inner talent eventually came bursting out. With all that instrumental training and all that NY influence, it was only a matter of time before he traded the posh VIP scene for the infectious, let it all hang out world of electronic dance music.

He certainly has our signature!

Bio

David Berrie has played innumerable bold-face-name parties for the likes of Diddy, Kanye West, 50 Cent, Gisele Bundchen, and Pharrell Williams. He’s a staple at the most exclusive nightclubs around the world. Top promoters and music aficionados across the globe seek him out. It’s nice work if you can get it, but for David Berrie none of it truly matters.

“I know it sounds corny,” David Berrie says, “but what really matters to me is making great music—music that reaches people, music with integrity, music that makes people dance.” The unassuming 24-year old goes on to cite a constellation of luminary DJs who have inspired him early on: Carl Cox, Louie Vega, and Danny Tenaglia. Which begs the question, what gives this young, talented upstart the nerve to name-check such DJ royalty in conjunction with himself? Hard work and talent.

David Berrie wasn’t born with a silver slipmat on his 1200s. His mother, a Korean immigrant, and his father, the son of Bronx-based Russian immigrants, settled in Englewood, NJ. His dad was the marketing genius behind those ubiquitous Troll dolls. His parents made him study classical piano and violin years before he got his decks. He reached that milestone at the tender age of 13 with two Technics and a used Vestax mixer.

“My older sister originally turned me onto hip-hop,” David Berrie explains. “I got really into golden-era late-80s and early-90s Native Tongues stuff — A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Brand Nubian and other artists like KRS-One, EPMD, and Rakim.” His love of music and his enterprising ways found full expression in his thriving junior high school business making CD mixes for classmates. “It was my first experience curating music,” he says. “It was going great, until the principle called me into his office…”

As hip-hop in the late-90s became increasingly commercialized, David Berrie found refuge in the underground. “I started deeper and deeper into the dance scene,” he explains. “I started discovering DJs like Danny Krivit and Frankie Knuckles, and Larry Levan. I began loading up on classics from Fat Beats and Satellite Records.”

At 16, after endless hours spent in his basement, this self-taught DJ landed his first paying club gig in NYC from a handed over promo cd. At the time, David was sneaking out on buses to shuttle to his gigs. From then on David’s aspirations and masterful skills quickly took him from small rooms to the country’s most high-profile nightclubs including Tao Las Vegas, Webster Hall New York, and Liv Miami.

Soon he became the go-to DJ for international high-profile parties playing for luxury brands like GQ and Vogue and traveling to London, France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Croatia. Though he doesn’t like to talk about it, David’s style didn’t go unnoticed; US Weekly recently named him one of “The 25 Most Stylish New Yorkers.”

Most recently, David Berrie has been recording original tracks. President and CEO of dance music mega-label Ultra Records, only needed to hear one of David’s tracks to sign him. This summer single “Take a minute” is due for release in August 2010.

Best Known For: Being a French icon. A deadly overhead smash.

DJ Mag Rank: 55

Martin Solveig is definitely one of the more intriguing characters in the DJ world. One listen to his production style and a look at his music videos says it all. The guy’s got a certain panache about him unmatched by most.

His level in the DJ hierarchy is one many hope to reach and few will ever achieve. He has worked closely with superstar fashion designer Jean-Paul Gaultier on numerous projects. He mentioned once that his favorite artist was Prince, the next thing he new, Prince’s camp was making remix requests.

Check out his TV episode feat. ‘Hello.’ It’s got cameos from Bob Sinclar and superstar tennis icons Novak Djokovic and Gael Monfils!

Clearly Marty gets love. The night he arrives at Lima Lounge will be one for the ages. Few DJs with the staggering amount of YouTube views he has spin at venue as intimate as Lima. How lucky are we? Well, we are Glow, so very lucky.

Bio

2009 couldn’t have gone much better for Martin Solveig who has long been synonymous with forward-thinking electronic music for over a decade. Fresher than ever, the Frenchman’s whirlwind year has seen him adorned by his homeland as well as re-establishing himself as an electro-pop icon, not to mention breaking into the top 50 of DJ Mag’s prestigious Top 100 poll.

Awarded the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres for his contribution to the arts in his homeland and across the world, appreciation for Solveig’s work is greater than ever, having also scooped the Artiste de Musiques Electroniques de l’Année at the French Victoires de la Musique last year.

Musically, Martin has remained at the forefront of the medium he adores; maturing like a fine French wine, Solveig’s irrepressible touch has coined successive hits from his latest album ‘C’est la Vie’, released in June 2008. ‘C’est la Vie’, ‘I Want You’ and ‘One 2.3 Four’ haven taken the airwaves by storm and demonstrated Martin’s primed production skills and electric approach – note, interestingly The Strokes was the key inspiration for making the album.

2009 and the masterfully engineered electro-pop powerhouse ‘Boys & Girls’ started life following a chance meeting between Martin and ‘fashionista’ Jean-Paul Gaultier. A shared admiration for each other’s work gave birth to the track that’s video, shot at Gaultier’s ‘Maison de Couture’, has gone on to amass over one million hits on Youtube. Bowing to public demand, a full release was scheduled globally featuring remixes from Laiback Luke, Les Petits Pilous, Bart B. More and David E. Sugar.
‘Boys & Girls’ featured on the ‘C’est la Vie Remixes’ album that was released for free across Europe through publications as a thank you to fans from Martin. A genuine gesture from the humble Parisian who enlisted some of his favourite producers to work on the alternative version of the album, including Fedde Le Grand, Laidback Luke and Felix Da Housecat, among others.

With over ten years in the industry under his belt, the French maestro continues to ‘woo’ audiences around the world and he has the awards to prove it. Relentlessly keeping one step ahead of the game, with ‘Boys & Girls’ still bubbling successfully and Martin back in the studio, 2010 looks set for Solveig to step up once again… but hey… what do you expect from the irrepressible, formidable Frenchman.

From: USA (Miami)

Style: Progressive Trance

Famous Tracks: Falling Backwards, True Love, The Reaper

Best Known For: Being a legend. Residing at Miami’s infamous Shadow Lounge at its height.

George Acosta was the first artist ever booked at Glow. He continued to be Glow’s biggest draw for over 5 years, outselling the current giants. His impact on trance is unparalleled. Whether it’s progressive, melodic, uplifting, techy, fast, slow, it doesn’t matter. George has affected the career of every trance artist today. No one can argue with that.

He defined the sound of South Beach.

Bio

Trance, whether you like your trance melodic and uplifting, or hard and fast, trance by any definition is here to stay. From the warehouse parties of the late 80’s to car commercials in 2001, trance has become part of the new millennium, part of our lifestyle. And all because of DJs like George Acosta. George proves every time he puts a needle on a record that “trance”, whatever the label, has changed, evolved, become a lifestyle, a culture… as well it should. With over 15 years of experience as a DJ and producer, George has helped change and evolve trance from an underground movement to massive festival experiences throughout the world. “George Acosta is probably America’s most unique DJ and has undoubtedly been a major force in shaping the sound of trance in Miami and beyond” says fellow DJ Dave Ralph. George Acosta is America’s representative in the global Trance scene.

Coming up playing warehouse parties in his native Miami, he then went on to producing tracks of his own with such international hits like Planet Soul, Emotions, Taking Over Space, R U Awake and The Reaper. He then made the next logical step for a successful DJ/producer and opened his own record store, Grooveman Music in Miami.

He knows his crowds so well because he is just as big a fan as they are of his music. Just like the thousands he plays for, George Acosta lives it. George tries to maintain a close connection to the people who come to hear him play because like them, he discovered the music as a fan first.

It was during his three-year residency at Miami’s famed Shadow Lounge that George honed his craft and began educating South Beach to this wonderful emotional roller-coaster ride that was quickly moving west from Europe. Now firmly entrenched in South Beach, George produced his first mix cd, “Awake”. This became the definitive sound of South Beach. It was this same cd that helped propel George on to the world stage.

With record bag and headphones in hand, George prepared to move the planet in his own unique way. He began playing some of the biggest clubs and festivals in the world, Berlin’s Love Parade, Miami’s Ultra Beach Festival and Rave on the Rocks to name a few. And with demand for George reaching a fever pitch, he produced his second mix cd,”Release: AM and PM”. This ambitious double cd was representative of his legendary all night sets, evoking the different emotions and textures of his sets, from epic, string-soothed splendor to searing tech-trance.

The demand for all things George Acosta soon led to other successful mix cds: such as “Trance Nation America” through Ministry of Sound along with his latest release entitled “History of Trance” on Ultra Records. George is also currently in the studio working on some original material with such artists as worldwide sensation Jon Secada among others.

“Traveling to different places and countries every week, playing for so many people–it makes me want to play more intimate stuff,” he explains. “I used to play harder. Now I’m into the more melodic stuff. I guess when you grow into this scene you want to play records that mean something.” George proves he’s a trance DJ that can move onto something bigger and better. “Whenever I play anywhere, I feel like I am at home, I look down to the dance floor and I see my people, they understand me, they understand what is happening as I spin my records.” It’s a journey that happens week after week, and George is their guide.
