How long have you been waiting to see Steve Angello? Hmmm?? Yeah, he spun at Ultrabar about a year and a half ago, but that was before Swedish House Mafia had released their first official single, ‘One.’ It was right when ‘Show Me Love’ dropped. Back then he was #63 in the DJ Magazine Poll. Now he’s #20, Swedish Mafia is the hottest ticket in the world and Steve is a Don, The Boss Man, Mr. Big Cheese.

Along with Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso, the three of them combine to form the Voltron of house music, Swedish House Mafia. There is no one doing it in the underground and the mainstream simultaneously like they are. Whether they’re working with Pharrell or Eric Prydz, they’re coming at dance music from all angles.

Their latest release as a group, Miami 2 Ibiza is too dope for words. Steve’s new track ‘Knas’ will be in everyone’s track list for the next 5 months.

Bio

Armed with a slew of new CDs and enough confidence to rebuild Hadrian’s Wall, Steve Angello totally destroyed the Space terrace at the inaugural Ibiza opening on May 31st – but in truth, the momentum has been building on Steve Angello’s music for some time now. First up was arguably his globe-straddling Moby remix of ‘Raining Again.’ Then it was ‘Tell Me Why’ with Sebastian Ingrosso and ‘Be’ with Laidback Luke. And then ‘Be’ returned in spirit (and b-line) for ‘Show Me Love’ with original vocalist Robin S and Laidback Luke in tow, smashing clubs and Top Ten charts into tiny pieces everywhere it was dropped. “It’s a huge track as we all know,” says Steve Angello. “It’s just one of those tracks. It’s done a lot of good stuff for me so I do a new bootleg of it every six months. The best thing about it is everywhere I go, it’s the one track that everyone wants to hear. I may have played it 60,000 times but people still want to hear it!”

Since we last looked, Steve Angello decamped to Los Angeles where he’s been living at least 50% of the time, boosting his creativity and inner confidence to all-new levels. “I love playing in The States, it’s a scene that’s ready to explode,” he states. “They’re getting kind of bored of American DJs so I go one week a month to keep them interested in us. The scene in LA is huge – we used to play to 1500, now it’s closer to 4000. I play at Mansion and Avalon in LA and Pacha in New York. I love Pacha New York too – it’s Erick’s club! – they got the place up on its feet and it catches that typical New York feeling. You also remember every face on the dance-floor.”

But L.A. is Steve’s new home and despite having played pretty much every club on the American circuit, he says Avalon remains his favourite club spot. “The vibe in there is just ridiculous! It’s the only club that goes past 4AM. When the light comes in at 6AM, I still have 4 hours to go. And then I can jump in my car and go home.” Needless to say, music is Steve’s main priority in 2009. “You know, I think if you come to LA and want to work, it’s important… they’re tired of producers doing one track and disappearing – I’m a workaholic!

But when he’s not spinning or driving, there’s still much to do. When he wakes up, Angello is still very much the A & R supremo for Size Records, wherever he lays his hat that night. The label is now firing with releases by himself, Kim Fai, Funkagenda and Marcos Schauss upcoming this year alone. “Marcus is doing well, he’s a great DJ and he plays a little darker than me which is great,” says Steve. “I also signed my brother Antoine to the label. He’s 19, he’s young and fresh- he’s like me when I was 19, he’s really determined – I gave him a taste of the DJ life and he loved it!” Well, who wouldn’t? “At least I can steer him the way I want him to go,” reasons his big brother. He’s also working with Funkagenda – “such a great producer! He’s already done a couple of pieces for the label,” states Steve. “I love having him at my parties.” Steve is ready for the Mafia summer to begin. Mondays at Pacha with Seb and Axwell – what more could he ask for? “It’s so good to be having our own night and finally we got it. Every Monday will be like New Year’s Eve!”

And what about Steve’s own album? “I’m doing the Mescal kid album which is more techno – I have a Mescal kid track coming out on Sci- Tec, a dark techno track I really love but you know, I’m still making three new tracks a week! But my album is going to be really house and techy…. I got a couple of vocals in the bag but it’s too early to say.” And then of course there’s the small matter of the upcoming N*E*R*D* collaboration they’re about to finish. “We met in Sydney. We started to talk and ‘Be’ was playing in the background and Pharrell said he loved the track. We had four days off and that’s when we nailed it. I think everything is moving towards electronic dance music. Everybody is interested in what we are doing.” And what of the song, Steve? “It’s a very simple vocal – there are some really nice harmonies and then it has a banging bassline.” And what did Steve learn from N*E*R*D*, we wonder? “The guy is a workaholic and you can definitely tell. He doesn’t drink or party, he works 24/7… I was surprised how hard he could focus. And I thought I worked hard.”

One of the most respected DJs in the game, Danny Howell’s has been pumping life in clubs since he was a teen in the late 80′s. In ’91 he was ‘discovered’ by John Digweed and spent the next 9 years as Diggers’ opening act at the infamous Bedrock parties at Heaven in London.

One of the original progressive/tech house DJ/producers, Danny is part of a small group of the EDM elite who held a residency at NY’s legendary Twilo. Among the names are Paul van Dyk, Carl Cox, Sven Vath, Steve Lawler, Deep Dish, Sasha & Digweed, DJ Dan, Richie Hawtin, Danny Tenaglia and Junior Vasquez.
**************************************************************
Lee Burridge has so much skill behind the decks that he essentially launched the entire club scene in Hong Kong during the mid-90′s. Think about that for a second… When he moved back to the UK in the late 90′s, he began monthly residencies with Sasha and Craig Richards. When a certain new club opened up, Lee and Craig helped establish it as one of the premiere clubs in the London. The name of the club? Fabric!!!

These days Lee is known for his GET WEIRD parties which often last until the sun comes up. His mix compilations are amongst the best and his antics behind the decks are unparalleled. Glow was at his after party on New Year’s this year and it was ridiculous!! He was still going at 8am!!
***************************************************************
Clearly you see the school of EDM here. Danny, Lee, Sasha, Digweed, the UK underground. If you close your eyes Thursday night, you may open them to find you’ve been transported to the London underground!!

Bio

DANNY HOWELLS
Danny is one of the few DJs on the scene today that truly has a style of his own. With his passion for all styles of music and infectious personality, Danny has created a unique, eclectic sound that has established him as one of the top DJs in the world. Danny is one of the hardest working and most dedicated individuals in the business with over 16 years experience and a hectic touring schedule that constantly takes him around the world. He’s played in the world’s coolest clubs and held residencies at Arc, Twilo, Renaissance, Home, and Bedrock, so its no coincidence that he’s been placed in DJ Magazine’s top 100 DJs in the world for the last 9 years.

Danny’s most recent compilation was his eclectic selection for the highly acclaimed Choice series on Azuli, which received fantastic reviews worldwide, whilst previously he underwent an intense world tour to promote his addition to the long running Global Underground series, GU27 Miami – having already released a Nu-Breed and a 24/7 mix for the label, Danny was the obvious choice. This adds to Danny’s continually growing back catalogue of mixes for labels such as Renaissance as well as his own Nocturnal Frequencies series.

His mixes have also made waves on the world famous Essential Mix, where his fourth mix aired in early 2007. It’s not just as a DJ where Danny has made a name for himself, he’s also an accomplished producer and remixer. Together with production partner Dick Trevor, the pair have been responsible for many stand out tracks, including the timeless Persuasion/Repercussion on Bedrock Records, Breathe on Renaissance Records (which was re-released on Cr2 with some killer new remixes) and Kinkyfunk on Yoshitoshi Records. They also hit the charts in 2004 with their Miami hit Dusk till Dawn, which was released on Cr2 Records and featured the vocals of Erire.

Danny has also had massive dance-floor success with Deep Dish as “Size DDD” and the Eminem sampling “Nobody listens to techno”. On the remix front Danny and Dick have recently remixed Roachford’s “Ride The Storm”, Madonna’s hit single “Get Together”, Marco Bailey’s “Smooth Driver”, and Destiny’s Child “Soldier”. Previously Danny has remixed artists such as Robbie Williams, David Morales, BT, Chakra, Ashtrax, Coco and Stonebridge and many more, most recently “Waiting For You” by Bent.

Danny has come a long way since his early beginnings Djing at Bedrock in his hometown of Hastings, though his complete love of all music remains the same. Danny is a DJ with a broad musical taste who likes anything from jazz to rock, to pop and anything a bit bizarre. He likes to champion his own special tracks and records that nobody else has latched on to and has a way of combining cutting edge grooves with crowd pleasing dynamics that enable him to connect with his audience making him one of the hottest DJs in the world.

LEE BURRIDGE
In the decade that has passed since Lee Burridge discovered acid house music, raided the local record shops of Bournemouth and took to the decks, his illustrious DJ career has spanned at least three continents and seen him work alongside some of the England’s most revered DJ’s.

In 1991 the South Coast scene was no match for Lee’s dexterous talents and Hong Kong beckoned with the promise of a residency that would put Hong Kong on the clubbing map. Six years later, the undisputed King of the colony was guesting at most of the big club tour parties in Hong Kong, including Cream, Ministry, Malibu Stacey and Northern Exposure.

In 1993 Lee turned his attentions to the now legendary full moon parties at Ko Pha Ngan, Thailand, with his residency at the back-yard club providing an inspirational alternative to the more standard nights around.

Future projects already promise to launch Lee into the DJing stratosphere and confirm his position as a face to watch on the scene. His residencies at Tyrant, both at The Bomb and Fabric, Golden and Cream continues to provide clubbers with the slick, hard, deep house, trancey, breakbeat sounds they have come to expect from him and his guest appearances at Gatecrasher, Sugarshack, United, Rhumba and Kelly’s Port Rush have introduced his style to club goers all over the country. Last year Lee broadened his DJ diary horizons to take in Thailand, Ireland, South America, Ibiza, Israel and Hong Kong where international club goers have voted with their feet for Lee’s driving progressive style. 2000 will see him play in Greece, Ibiza, the States, Brazil and undertake an Asian tour.

In 1999 Lee honed his studio techniques with the release of his mix CD ‘Metropolis’ (released on Tide), which received the Compilation of The Month thumbs up in Muzik. Future projects in the pipeline include collaborations with Breeder and Hybrid, a break beat track with Andy Page (who previously collaborated with Sasha), and various other remix projects including work for several other labels.

With 1999 already a distant memory, the accolades Lee received – a new entry @ no. 33 in DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJ Poll, Muzik’s DJ Of The Month and Mixmag’s Best Up and Coming DJ, are the perfect platform to consolidate his rise in 2000 with the launch of his monthly Tyrant night with Craig Richards at Fabric and the launch of the Tyrant Compilation series on Distinctive Breaks which will showcase Lee and Craig Richards legendary DJ sets as previously seen at Space in Ibiza and The Bonaparte at the last two Notting Hill Carnivals.

The Tyrant series is set to kick off in May with a series of parties stretching the breadth of the country surrounding the launch dates.

In a time when the music industry has risen to an all time high; where the swollen pockets of music executives have diluted quality; where the radio has become more vanilla than French ice cream; and the rise of internet distribution has allowed anyone, talented or not, to get their ‘art’ to the masses; Steve Lawler has remained all about the music.

His career has spanned nearly two decades and seen a teen from Birmingham go from throwing illegal parties under a highway to being crowned King of Space, Lawler has made it a point, no, an imperative necessity, to remain true to his forward thinking musical nature.

Now, nearly twenty years after he first threw the first of his legendary M42 motorway parties, Mr. Lawler is still pushing the boundaries of dance, performance and music.

“Performing is addictive, it’s a unique feeling, something that I will never get from anything else in my life. Sharing music that you are passionate about to an audience of people is magical for me.” – Steve Lawler

Experience the magic Thursday at Lima

Bio

Steve Lawler A child of the acid house generation, has been busy with the beats long before genres were but a twinkle in clublandʼs eye. An electronic artist who defies generic boundaries, ever since his days organising the infamous motor way raves under the M42 motor way, in the uk.

As an Artists his releases & Remixes have been signed by some of the worlds most established Recording labels. R&S Records, Systematic, Drumcode, Harthouse, Cocoon, MBF, OVUM, Sci+Tec, Tsuba, Souvenir, Rekids, Boxer Sport, Be As One, Monique, Kostbar, Skint and of course his own recording label VIVa MUSiC.

As a Label Manager Steveʼs label VIVa MUSC (found in 2006), has quickly earnʼt a reputation for breaking new talent and has featured tracks by such artists as Reboot, Audiofly, Simon Baker, Jamie Jones, Davide Squillace, Luca Bacchetti, Bushwacka, Livio & Roby, Dragosh, Leon, Plasmik, Ripperton, ilario Alicante, John Selway, Peace Division, Bearweasel, Tiefschwarz and of course lawler him self amongst many others and receives heavy patronage by many House & Techno luminaries.

As for A&R, just ask artists like Simon Baker, Audiofly, leon, Bearweasel and Livio & Roby and theyʼll tell you all about the support, encouragement and opportunities Lawler has given them.

VIVa MUSiC works as a culmination of everything thatʼs gone before; from the putting on the aforementioned illegal raves, to his residency at super club Cream back in the mid 90ʼs. Heʼs remixed high profile artists such as Jamelia, Dido and Justin Timberlake and worked with many of the worlds renowned dance imprints. As well as recording a track for the blockbuster horror movie by Ian Softly ʻThe Skeleton Keyʼ. Heʼs released some of the industryʼs most collectable mix series such as the ʻDark Drumsʼ ʻLights Outʼ and, most
recently, the ʻVIVaʼ series. Now on its 3rd release, the ʻVIVaʼ series has revealed Steveʼs widescreen vision better than any mix before with down tempo and deep house playing a big part in the beat blend.

Steve held a triumphant residency for nine years at the Balearic club Space in Ibiza (a club he returned back to in 2008). His VIVa Nights residency where steve played from doors open to door close at The End in London consistently sold out for its 7 years span and his residency at Londonʼs Home Club was one of the infamous venueʼs only success stories.

Dynamic, driven and drastically obsessed with performing as well as he possibly can. Steveʼs passion for House, Techno and Electronica is too strong for one simple generic association, and right now his message is louder than ever. 18 years deep and Steve Lawler isnʼt just at the top of his game, heʼs pushing the boundaries of what a DJ can do – both technically and creatively – as an artist and as a successful label businessman.
