When you’re done checking out the club’s impressive collection of blown-glass chandeliers or watching ESPN on the flat screen TVs, go socialize and get your dance on! Boasting a diverse crowd of all different races and ages, even though the average age of the crowd may be a little more mature than typical DC clubs and lounges, The Park provides a spot for plenty of mixing and mingling!

Venue Overview

Current offers a sophisticated combination of fine dining with a sleek lounge atmosphere. A staple for locals during happy hour and popular spot for after dark dancing and lounging, Current serves up both some of the city’s best sushi and nightlife vibes.

Conceived of as “an ultra-futuristic luxury yacht,” says partner Richard Koch, Current boasts two floors, fully stocked bars, an interactive sushi bar and cool atmosphere. Along with the artistic touches of portholes and overhead ribs, a projection screen adds to the lounge’s nautical vibe as it plays sweeping ocean views, as well as hit movies.

The delicacies of Head Sushi Chef Niki Shimasaki and kitchen of Toyaki Kitamura satisfy the appetites of Current’s hungry patrons until 11 pm on weekdays and midnight on the weekends. Climbing the floating staircase to upstairs, a rotation of predominantly local DJs keeps the crowd jamming into the night on the translucent dance floor or grooving along on the row of couches. Keep on going and you’ll hit the rooftop for some fresh air and more dancing. The music selection at Current covers a variety of genres and is anything from house and electronic to mash-ups, top 40s, and hits songs from the past 30 years.

While table reservations are readily available, a seat at the “Captain’s Table” is the pinnacle of Current’s exquisite bottle service options. For $2,000 minimum, the Captain’s Table seats up to 20 guests, offers great views of outside, and has a private elevator that shoots straight to street level without having to wait in line.

Since Current isn’t a colossal venue but has plenty to offer, entry is best recommended earlier in the night. After working up a sweat upstairs dancing, be sure to also check out the chill outdoor patio in back.

The story behind it all:

In 1999, partners Antonis Karagounis and original resident DJ Pete Kalamoutsos launched Glow at Zei club. Their venue partner was Zei Director of Promotions Dave Karim. The venture lasted until Zei’s closing in 2001.

Antonis and Dave were reunited a year later at the legendary MCCXXIII where they hosted a Tuesday college party for the next 7 years. Pete took over a residency at Spank, the club’s VIP as level.

Since 2005 Karagounis has been a partner in top DC nightlife destinations including Lima Restaurant & Lounge, Ultrabar Nightclub, and Barcode Restaurant & Lounge. Karim went on to open Josephine, Policy, Current and Lost Society. Kalamoutsos cemented relationships with the top DJs and booking agencies in dance music.

The Glow brand gained international recognition in 2010 when Armin van Buuren and David Guetta officially named Glow events their favorite in the world. A recent partnership with Live Nation now allows Glow to expand its reach to the US mainstream.

Given the history, combined with dance music’s emerging mainstream appeal; the concept of Glow Fridays at Josephine was inevitable. This September three entrepreneurs of DC nightlife reunite to bring one of the world’s best parties to one of DC’s finest lounges.
