Opening Set by Rich Webb

Thursday, June 3rd 2010 at Lima Restaurant & Lounge
1401 K St NW Washington DC
Doors Open at 10pm, Ages 21+

There’s a reason James Zabiela falls in the category of being a DJ’s DJ. He’s widely considered to be the man who figured out how to properly manipulate CDJ’s, an industry standard. In fact, he was invited to Pioneer HQ in Japan to spin a private party for the CEO. If there’s one thing that can be said about James Zabiela, it’s that he is without question one of most technically gifted DJs in the world.

Most DJs and producers have to be a little geeky. Think about it… they have to know the intricacies of mixing, mastering, the equations that make effects plug-ins work, they need to know how to layer this bass on top of that one and how to do it with perfection. Shit, even guys like Timbaland, Scott Storch and Swizz Beats have to be a little dorky deep down.

The difference between those guys and James Zabiela is that JZ admits it. The self-proclaimed nerd and Star Wars junkie will be at Lima Restaurant & Lounge on Thursday to display what happens when you combine a tech-geek, music and a ton of DJ toys… Utterly brilliant music, obviously.

24 years old, ranked #56 in the world and coming off a year highlighted by worldwide residencies for Global Gathering and Godskitchen; Menno de Jong has fast tracked himself to international superstardom.

A trailblazer in podcasting, Menno’s ‘Intuition’ show began in 2005 and now in addition to iTunes, can be heard via Sirius XM, Slam FM (Holland), and Worldspace. With tens of thousands tuning in each week, ‘Intuition’ has proven to be one of the best and most downloaded podcasts year in and year out.

Raised in Holland, de Jong has played piano for over 15 years and begins each production sitting in front of a baby grand. Some of his more famous tunes include Last Light Tonight, No Regrets, Majestic, Magma, Sjamaan and Solid State. He’s closed for the likes of Armin van Buuren and Tiesto.

With all that he has accomplished, the best part about Menno de Jong is that he’s a chill ass dude. Straight up. You can find Menno at the club, hanging out, just chillin like any of us would be. He was actually at Fur when Armin was here, just doing whatever. Watch the videos and you’ll see what we mean. It’s almost certain he’ll stick around after his gig and chat with fans, that’s Menno de Jong… a sick producer, a dope DJ, and cool as hell.

Chuckie really knows how to bang out with that Dirty Dutch Music. Even if you’ve never heard of Chuckie, you definitely know who he is. Along with LMFAO, he is responsible for one of the ultimate club anthems in recent memory, “Let the Bass Kick in Miami Bitch.” Now that you’ve realized who produced the track you’ve been shaking your tail feather to, it’s time to come out and see the man in person.

Currently ranked #72 by DJ Magazine, Chuckie only recently started touring outside his native Holland. How many spots he’ll jump come October is anyone’s guess, but he’s guaranteed to climb. Chuckie is at the forefront of, for lack of a better term, the ‘F*** Me I’m Famous’ movement. Highlighted by both hip-hop and house influences, Chuckie’s explosive beats bang out something proper. In fact, he was unsure whether or not his style of house was even that good, until David Guetta told him it was great.

With Lima’s crisp sound system behind him, Chuckie is sure to let the bass kick in Club Glow this Thursday. A venue made for those who want to look nice while dancing like crazy, Lima is sure to fill up quick for this cross-genre, Dirty Dutch Music genius.

Multo bene, Benny!! Italian superstar Benny Benassi has one of the most recognizable names in music. Whether you’re a college kid who cares more about getting wasted than what song is on, an electronic dance aficionado, a parent who loves the song from that one Wendy’s commercial, or someone who watches the Grammy’s, you know about Benny Benassi.

Benny has been winning awards ever since he stepped foot on the international stage. 2003 Revelation of the year at the Italian Dance Music Awards; 2003 Dance Revelation of the year at the Danish Music Awards; 2003 DJ Mag tune of the year (Satisfaction); 2004, highest new entry rating in the DJ Mag top 100 (18); 2004 Best Video at Dancestar, Miami; 2006, “Hit my Heart” selected as the opening for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show; 2008 Grammy for Best Remixed Recording (Public Enemy – Bring the Noise).

Some of Benny’s hottest tracks include “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme,” “Come Fly Away,” (with a sick remix by Adam K & Soha) “I Am Not Drunk,” “Love is Gonna Save Us,” (a personal favorite of Benny’s) and “Who’s Your Daddy.” (with a ridiculous David Guetta remix)

Benassi is currently working on a new artist album slated for release sometime this year. The first single is called “Spaceship,” and features Kelis, Apl.De.Ap. (Black Eyed Peas), and Jean Baptiste. Check out Italian superstar Benny Benassi Saturday night at Fur Nightclub.

Every year from 1997 – 2004 he was top 10 in the DJ Mag poll, twice at #1 and twice at #2. From 2005-2008 he remained in the top 15. He currently sits at #23. Paul Oakenfold just might be the most consistent trance DJ ever. He is a legend. He was there when it all started and he is still here, still tearing up dance floors across the world, still pumping bass from Thailand to South Africa. Without Paul Oakenfold there might not be an Armin van Buuren, ATB, Ferry Corsten, or trance as we know it. Paul Oakenfold, along with artists like Johan Gielen, Robert Miles and M.I.K.E. took early styles of trance and molded them to what many refer to today as ‘epic’ or ‘uplifting’ trance.

Paul Oakenfold’s roots as a music pioneer run far deeper than just trance. At the age of 21 he was sneaking into Studio 54, posing as a journalist and interviewing the stars. As A&R for Champion Records in the 80’s, Paul was responsible for signing The Fresh Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff as well as Salt-n-Pepa. He was also a promoter and the British agent for the Beastie Boys and Run DMC.

In the mid-late 80’s, Oakey traveled to Ibiza and was enamored by the Balearic beats. He would go on to mold the sound Ibiza is now known for. In 1992, under the name Perfecto (after his record label), Paul’s remix of U2’s “Even Better Than the Real Thing,” reached a higher chart position than… the real thing! U2 hired him the next year to be their opening act. 2 years later he was the first DJ to play the main stage at Glastonbury.

He’s remixed for U2, The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, shall we keep going? He’s done the music for Saab, Toyota and Pepsi commercials. He worked on the scores to The Matrix Reloaded, Swordfish, The Bourne Identity, Shrek 2 and many others.

We didn’t need an event description for Paul Oakenfold, just a short recap of his illustrious career. To this day he remains one of DJ Mag’s top 25. If you don’t come to see Paul Oakenfold at Lima Lounge this Thursday… then you’re dumb.

School’s OUT! Tuesday Party at LIMA!

College Tuesdays at Lima Nightclub DC are always a big hit, week after week. Especially with the end of the semester coming up fast, there’s even more incentive to get out there and party before the summer! The party is ages 18+ and features $3 Bud Lights + $5 Stoli Redbulls! The best part is that Lima is a damn nice club, unlike most places that host college parties which are typically filthy, cheap, and nasty.

Above and Beyond Tonight at GLOW!

They’re back!!! DJ Magazine’s 4th ranked group two years running, are back in DC!! The last time they spun at Glow it was unreal; the lights and visuals of Fur Nightclub, the uplifting trance, the jubilant crowd, what could be better?

Saturday Nights at Ultrabar are DC’s craziest 18+ Event.

Weekends are the highlight of the week, a time to get down and party! The best place to do it is at Ultrabar Nightclub in Washington DC , which hosts “Chroma” Saturdays every weekend.

Roger Sanchez at GLOW at Lima Lounge!

Along with Junior Vasquez, David Morales and Danny Tenaglia, Sanchez helped pioneer the sound of NY house; taking it international and ending up an icon in Ibiza. 2007 saw Roger take down the Ibiza DJ Award for Best House DJ as well as a top 25 ranking in DJ Magazine’s acclaimed poll. He was #13 in the first ever DJ Mag top 100 poll (1997) and he’s still in it today!! Currently ranked #60, he has lost absolutely none of his swagger. His set last fall at Made Event’s Electric Zoo in NYC was without question one of the best. He’s about the music, not the hype.

Bad Boy Bill headlines this Saturday at GLOW!

Bad Boy Bill invented the mixtape, ‘nuff said. If you thought David Guetta and Calvin Harris were good, oh man, you might not be ready! Bad Boy Bill is the original gangster of cross-genre club music.
