Every year from 1997 – 2004 he was top 10 in the DJ Mag poll, twice at #1 and twice at #2. From 2005-2008 he remained in the top 15. He currently sits at #23. Paul Oakenfold just might be the most consistent trance DJ ever. He is a legend. He was there when it all started and he is still here, still tearing up dance floors across the world, still pumping bass from Thailand to South Africa. Without Paul Oakenfold there might not be an Armin van Buuren, ATB, Ferry Corsten, or trance as we know it. Paul Oakenfold, along with artists like Johan Gielen, Robert Miles and M.I.K.E. took early styles of trance and molded them to what many refer to today as ‘epic’ or ‘uplifting’ trance.

Paul Oakenfold’s roots as a music pioneer run far deeper than just trance. At the age of 21 he was sneaking into Studio 54, posing as a journalist and interviewing the stars. As A&R for Champion Records in the 80’s, Paul was responsible for signing The Fresh Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff as well as Salt-n-Pepa. He was also a promoter and the British agent for the Beastie Boys and Run DMC.

In the mid-late 80’s, Oakey traveled to Ibiza and was enamored by the Balearic beats. He would go on to mold the sound Ibiza is now known for. In 1992, under the name Perfecto (after his record label), Paul’s remix of U2’s “Even Better Than the Real Thing,” reached a higher chart position than… the real thing! U2 hired him the next year to be their opening act. 2 years later he was the first DJ to play the main stage at Glastonbury.

He’s remixed for U2, The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, shall we keep going? He’s done the music for Saab, Toyota and Pepsi commercials. He worked on the scores to The Matrix Reloaded, Swordfish, The Bourne Identity, Shrek 2 and many others.

We didn’t need an event description for Paul Oakenfold, just a short recap of his illustrious career. To this day he remains one of DJ Mag’s top 25. If you don’t come to see Paul Oakenfold at Lima Lounge this Thursday… then you’re dumb.

Tuesday Party Moved to Barcode

The main dancefloor at LIMA

College Tuesdays at Lima Lounge in DC are always a big hit, week after week.  Now that you don’t have classes early the next morning, there’s even more incentive to get out there and party!  This party is ages 18+ and features $3 Bud Lights + $5 Stoli Redbulls!  The best part is that Lima is a damn nice club, unlike most places that host college parties which are typically filthy, cheap, and nasty.

Lima Tuesdays take the best parts of a college party (The girls, the cheap drinks, loud music, college kids, and a covered outdoor smoking patio) and omit the crappy parts (Vomit covered floors, watered down drinks, crappy beer, cops shutting things down, etc).  It’s win/win.

Plus, you can get in without having to pay the cover charge with the pass from us: HERE

Check out the insanity from Last Week, its absolutely crazy!

They’re back!!! DJ Magazine’s 4th ranked group two years running, are back in DC!! The last time they spun at Glow it was unreal; the lights and visuals of Fur Nightclub, the uplifting trance, the jubilant crowd, what could be better?

Tony, Paavo and Jono are widely considered to be giants of trance along with AvB, Tiesto, PvD, and Ferry Corsten. They have created their own distinct sound, characterized by gorgeous, inspiring melodies. It’s the kind of music that brings tears to your eyes.

From Britney Spears and Dido to Madonna, Above & Beyond has remixed countless tracks for a multitude of artists. Their label, Anjunabeats, year in and year out releases some of the best tracks, albums and sublime compilations of any label out there. Their ‘Trance Around the World (TOTW)’ radio show airs on over 15 FM, Internet and satellite stations worldwide. The Above & Beyond TV podcast is arguably the best EDM podcast available on iTunes. They have performed before some of the largest audiences of any DJ act, including 1,000,000 people in Rio de Janeiro.

You are their passion. The way they describe their inspiration will send shivers down your spine. You can read it in their bio. Here’s an excerpt: “…what we’re trying to do is connect with people. You try and describe something in your own life, but in a way that will resonate with other people… We like to think of ourselves as songwriters first… That’s our approach to music. The most challenging thing is to write a song that really touches the listener.”

Come check out Above & Beyond at Fur Nightclub this Saturday. Cause hey, they don’t do it for themselves, they do it for you.

Roger Sanchez

Special Guest Lex Da Funk (myspace.com/funkymuzik)

Opening Set by Rich Webb

Thu, May 13th 2010 at Lima Lounge 1401 K St NW Washington DC  Ages 21+ Purchase your tickets here!

Along with Junior Vasquez, David Morales and Danny Tenaglia, Sanchez helped pioneer the sound of NY house; taking it international and ending up an icon in Ibiza. 2007 saw Roger take down the Ibiza DJ Award for Best House DJ as well as a top 25 ranking in DJ Magazine’s acclaimed poll. He was #13 in the first ever DJ Mag top 100 poll (1997) and he’s still in it today!! Currently ranked #60, he has lost absolutely none of his swagger. His set last fall at Made Event’s Electric Zoo in NYC was without question one of the best. He’s about the music, not the hype.

Roger’s ‘Release Yourself’ brand is internationally known as one of the best podcasts, parties and compilations. Whether it’s his infamous 7-8 sets at Amnesia, IDMA’s Best Global Club 3 years running; the 1.5 million listeners of his award winning podcast (IDMA); or the ridiculous mixes he drops every year; one thing is clear; Roger Sanchez was, is and will continue to be one of the best live acts electronic music has to offer.

With Lima as his canvas, Sanchez is set to paint a musical masterpiece across one of DC’s most savvy nightclubs. The seductive intimacy of Lima is the perfect backdrop for The S-Man’s ultra sexy house. With a new album on the way and special guest Lex Da Funk, now is the perfect time to experience Roger Sanchez at Lima Lounge, a legend of house music.

Bad Boy Bill headlines this Saturday at GLOW!

Kaskade at Glow Washington DC on Saturday May 1st! (DC Clubs)

This is going to be huge even for dance music in Washington, DC. If you rarely go out, if you go out to bars more than dc clubs or if you don’t really go to electronic dance music events… This is one time where exceptions must be made. Kaskade is one of those artists who transcends genre. It doesn’t matter if you like metal or minimal, you will love Kaskade. Be sure to come early this Saturday, as the lines outside Fur Nightclub are sure to wrap around the building.

Blake Jarrell this Thursday at Glow at Lima! (Electronic Dance Music!)

This Thursday at Glow at Lima, you can catch Blake Jarrell, a rising star of Electronic Dance Music brought to light by Armin van Buuren. After listening to a few of his original productions, Armin contacted Blake and soon after he joined the Armada artist roster.

Funkagenda headlines tonight at GLOW!

Definitely one of the best names around; Adam Walder AKA Funkagenda has been releasing straight bangers for 6 years now. Tracks you definitely know include the ever-popular “What the Fuck,” the track “Nobody Listens to Techno,” which samples an Eminem lyric that the song is named from, as well as collaborations with Mark Knight which include “Good Times” and their re-work of the classic “Man With the Red Face.” The funky one has also released tons of remixes for artists like Chris Lake, Radiohead, Robbie Rivera, Swedish House Mafia, Daft Punk and Wally Lopez. He works with everyone.
You seriously need to come to this event. Now is when DJs begin to make their initial campaigns for the DJ Magazine Top 100. It’s the push before summer. The festival circuit is coming up, then Ibiza, then it’s time to vote. Coming off the best British breakthrough artist award, Funkagenda is out to show the world why he is the #1 rising star from one of the most dance music-savvy nations in the world. We’re truly lucky to have Funkagenda gracing the decks; Fur is going to be absolutely nuts!
