pinktuesday

February 5, 2013 10pm
Barcode (1101 17th St NW, DC)

Breast cancer awareness shouldn’t be limited to breast cancer awareness month. In 2009 (the most recent statistics available) 211,731 women in the United States alone were diagnosed with breast cancer. An astounding 40,676 women died due to breast cancer that year, again just in the United States.

Everyone can help make a difference, which is why we’re accepting donations to the cause. There is no minimum donation, any amount will help further breast cancer research. To say thanks, every person that donates will get a pink DJ Saam wristband similar to the one in our flyer to the right.

For every bottle of Ketel One purchased Barcode will donate $50 to the cause.

Venue Overview

Work your way past the red carpet, bouncers, and guest list. A softly illuminated hallway gives way to an energetic party inside. The Huxley arose from a 4,600 square foot space once called home by a television studio. If one word had to describe The Huxley it would be luxury. No detail is overlooked: careful attention went into furnishing of two unique rooms, materials used throughout the venue, standards at the door and so much more.

The Huxley Balroom

The Ballroom at Huxley

Step into the main room (Ballroom) and you are greeted by 14 foot finished ceilings, crystal chandeliers and ample dancing room encircled by VIP tables. Mirrors are surrounded by curtains to complete the “ballroom” look while a raised DJ booth provides an unimpeded view of the DJ from the crowd. The staff is efficient but friendly.

The Library at Huxley DC

The Library at Huxley

Enter the “Library.” It would be every college students’ dream come true if this were how libraries worked. An intimate room with a relatively large bar seems the staple of many lounges in DC Nightlife. Most do not however have a bookshelf behind the bar complete with books. Attention to sound, lighting and decor are paid throughout the venue for a well rounded feel despite the split personality of separate rooms.

  • Atmosphere: Spot Lounge definitely has the potential to be great, though the crowd and overall vibe will change on a nightly basis. With a ton of space/seating for bottle service and a very long bar, the space itself could definitely be hot. Housed in the basement level of the same building as MIA and Public, next door to Shake Shack, Spot is kind of like a bar with bottle service and the feeling of an underground club.
Venue Overview

You can pretty much get the gist of Spot Lounge as soon as you reach the bottom of the staircase and enter the venue. To your immediate right is an open space/dance area with couch-benches on the wall and a hallway leading to the bathrooms. The venue is long and narrow ahead. On the left side are about 8 ‘tables’ for bottle service. On the right side is the bar.

At the end of the bar and beyond the DJ booth (opposite the end of the bar) sits a raised VIP area that sits deep within the venue. It’s got a relatively good amount of privacy and on busy nights is more than likely roped off.

It’s a simple venue with an x-factor crowd but with the right promoter,s could be a great place to party.
