From: George: New York, NY | Matt: Baltimore, MD

Style: George: House, electro, mash-up | Matt: house, uplifting house, tech

Best Known For: George: Taking the trendy club scenes in NY and DC by storm with his open-style of house mash-ups | Matt: With only a year and change under his belt Matt has opened for Kaskade, Avicii, Afrojack in Spain, Dirty South, Max Vangeli and David Berrie.

From NY to DC nightlife, but he didn’t have to take the Chinatown bus… George Garcia arrived at GW in 2006 on the back of a business degree, a pair of cleats and a mixer. He took no time in diving into the local house circuit. Within two years he found himself running parallel with those Chinatown buses, working residencies in NY at Azza Lounge and D’or as well as spinning here in The District. It was around that time he hung up the cleats and let the bass take over.

2009 saw George spinning everything from a Playboy fashion show to a US Tennis Association after party. He spun celebrity parties for everyone; Wimer Valderamma to Wu-Tang; Sean Kingston to Ovi. 2010 saw him spinning at Glow. It’s about time he headlined Fur!

Matt Goldman is climbing the ladder to success, escalator style. From the moment he got behind the 1s and 2s it was clear he had a natural affinity for spinning records. In just over a year he has gone from complete unknown to opening for Afrojack (in Spain), Avicii, Kaskade, Max Vangeli and David Berrie. He is the quintessential example of how combining time, a focused effort and networking can yield amazing results. He doesn’t push too hard, he lets his music do the talking. He is spinning at Glow because he comes highly recommended. We listened to his mixes, the music doesn’t lie. Matt Goldman is proof that ‘making it’ doesn’t entail guerilla promoting through facebook or shoving demos in someones face. It is the result of cool, calm and collected networking combined with intense training. You want to arrive early for this.

Bio

GEORGE:

Hanging up his cleats and bidding farewell to the soccer field, George Garcia has found another way to entertain and impact masses of people. George has become one of the younger, more recognized DJ’s in the scene and is not taking his pedal off the gas anytime soon. Couple together a love and appreciation for all music with an adrenaline filled desire to bring joy to people, and you pinpoint what shape his performances and have gained him recognition.

George found his relationship with music early on in life by being an active part of his family parties and being raised in an energetic, happy environment that embraced music at all times. He was first exposed to music and Latin rhythms as a child. Having his father as the main source of entertainment at parties, whether it be dancing or making sure that everyone was always on their feet, taught George to always keep the people moving. At the age of 13 George began DJing alongside friends for graduation parties, sweet sixteen events, bar mitzvahs, weddings, and house parties. As George grew older he began to perform and travel to different places, performing at private events and competitions to develop recognition for the sole purpose of providing people with a reason to move and dance.

In 2006, George made the decision to attend the George Washington University and enroll in the School of Business. By moving to Washington D.C., he embraced a new crowd, a new environment, a new scene, and a new city full of listening ears. George wanted to take advantage of this and make an impact right away. He took his first steps in D.C. by spinning at venues such as KStreet Lounge, Eyebar, Lotus, Five, and Indebleu now known as STIR. The reaction and warmth from the crowd is what first impacted George and motivated him to produce the energy that he does with his music.

With clubs in his hometown of New York such as Pacha NY, Cielo, Kiss & Fly, 1Oak & Central being his main influences, George was presented with the blueprint for an enjoyable & energetic performance. The summer of 2008 triggered the success that George has been able to have. Holding his first residencies at Azza Lounge & D’or in New York presented George with the opportunity to travel between New York & Washington to perform. That summer is when George decided to put his life-long passion of playing soccer to pursue music professionally and to fulfill his long desired dream of being an artist. DJs such as Erick Morillo, Victor Calderon, DJ AM, Robbie Rivera, DJ Berrie, Richie Santana, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, DJ Enferno, David Guetta & DJ Camilo have been among the major influences in George’s career and style. These influences, along with his love for house music, feeding off the sensation of the crowd, his Latin energy, and addiction to drums have contributed to George’s unique style that have gotten him where he is today: able to make any crowd put in front of him move.

George has provided the entertainment for events such as Playboy Swimwear’s Fashion show, Inaugural Events during the 2009 Inauguration, Buzzing 4 Change –Cancer Fundraiser, and the USTA Tennis Final after party. George has performed for artists such as Sean Paul, Sean Kingston, Busta Rhymes, Wilmer Valderrama, Clinton Portis, the Wu-Tang Clan, Antawn Jamison, Michael Jordan, Rosario Dawson, and Alexander Ovechkin. George began his career in New York City in 2008 as resident at New York hotspots Azza and D’or & currently maintains residencies at the hip & trendy lounge La Zarza, as well as Su Casa. In Washington, he maintains residencies at renowned venues such as Josephine, KStreet, Current, Spot, & Stir. Since 2008, George has performed in New York at venues such as Hudson Terrace, Room Service, Greenhouse, Su Casa, Aspen Social Club, 49 Grove, D’or, Highbar, La Zarza, Corio, Azza, Anchor Bar, Central, & Cavo. In Washington, George has performed at Josephine, Napoleon, Spot, KStreet Lounge, Park at 14th, Stir, Five, Lotus, Andalu, Current, Eyebar, Donovan House Roof Terrace Champions, Left Bank, Heaven & Hell, and many more. George has also been mentioned in newspapers such as the New York Post and the Times Ledger. Along with being a deejay, George is also one of the original founders of, EZeeDJ, established in the summer of 2009.

MATT:

At just 22 years old, Matt Goldman has quickly emerged as one of the most skilled up- and-coming DJs on the East Coast. In just over a year, this self-taught musician has made progression that is unparalleled in such a short amount of time.

Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, it wasn’t until he started college that he was introduced to house music. In fact, he grew up playing the piano and listening to classic rock; The Beatles, The Who, and The Rolling Stones. “When I was introduced to house music my freshman year, I immediately fell in love. It was totally different than anything I had listened to throughout my entire life. I was so intrigued and I wanted to learn everything I could about the genre, so I did.”

At that time, however, he was still just a listener. “I always thought about it, but it was only a little over a year ago that I finally decided to learn how to DJ. I used a simple MIDI controller and spent countless hours each day practicing and learning the fundamentals of DJing. Fortunately, I picked it up pretty quickly, and it was clear to me early that I had a chance to be successful.”

In just one year, Matt has repeatedly landed himself performances at some of the hottest nightclubs on the East Coast; Eden (D.C.), Fur (D.C.), Mosaic (Baltimore), and monthly bookings at the famed Pacha (NYC). He has played alongside some of the biggest names in house music, including Kaskade, Dirty South, David Berrie, Avicii, and Afrojack. For Matt, it’s all about the music, and this has been the true key to his success.

In November 2010, Matt’s “November Mix”, which includes tracks from Avicii, Dirty South, Axwell, and many others, became a huge viral success, receiving over 4,000 downloads in its first week. He has been featured on blogs such as Chubby Beavers, The Campus Socialite, Vinyl Penetration, I Can Give You House, Big10HouseMafia, and Club Planet.

Don’t let the big-name selection of artists on his podcast fool you though. Matt’s real passion lies in the underground subgenres of the house music world. No set would be complete without a strong presence of unknown gems amongst the widely accepted crowd pleasers. The smoothness of his transitions is unmatched and his work ethic is tireless. There’s a lot to expect from Matt in 2011 as he brings his passion for house music to clubs all over the world, with upcoming bookings in Indiana, Barcelona, Rome, Florence, and Punta Cana.

From: Sweden

Style: Electro-house-pop

Famous Tracks: Unleash the Fucking Dada, Cookies with a Smile, Happy Hands and Happy Feet, Let’s Get Bleeped Tonight

Best Known For: Champagne and bananas

DJ Mag Rank: 89

It’s about fucking time the Swedish gruesome twosome known for doing reckless shit landed in a Washington DC nightclub.

Dada Life has exploded (literally and figuratively) over the past year. Infamous for their eccentric ways and bad-mouthing of Tiesto, the duo has certainly made a name for themselves in EDM. Of course, Tiesto responded to their sh*t-talking with a remix of Satisfaction entitled “Tiesto’s Revenche Towards Dada Life Mix.”

The Swedish electro standouts explain. “If 2010 was a pizza with all different kinds of yummy stuff, 2011 will be the year when it explodes and hits people in the face.”

The fans of bananas and champagne have brought a bit of childish glee to the sometimes po-faced world of electro. Who else, for instance, would ignore some of the more illicit pleasures offered them backstage in favour of bigging up the free chocolate bars available? It’s an attitude personified as much in the cheeky vibe of their massively successful single ‘Just Bleep Me’ as the funny faces they pull in their publicity shots.

2011 – The Year of the Dada

From: London, UK

Style: Tech–driven, progressive vibes; tough, uplifting and energetic; ‘hands-in-the-air’ music

Famous Tracks: Dominos, Deadmau5 & Chris Lake – I Said (Michael Woods Remix), Deadmau5 – Strobe (Michael Woods Remix), Dynamik, Drop Zone, No Access

Best Known For: Running the Diffused Music label, getting remix work from Deadmau5, producing some of the best gritty, uplifting progressive house on the market.

Michael Woods, like Toolroom founder Mark Knight, not only runs his own label, but has worked to carve out his own niche in house music. Uplifting like Avicii and Axwell, bouncy with a little tech like Mark Knight, pushing forward like Deadmau5; Michael Woods has managed to distinguish his sound from all others… he has Diffused.

The ‘Diffused Music experience’ promises all the thrills and great ‘hands-in-the-air’ tracks that you crave while bringing the idea of elegant but epic music to the masses.

This is the dynamic force that clubs worldwide are raring for and Michael Woods and his Diffused sound are ready to raise the bar for House music to an all-time high with explosive force, undeniable talent and tough, uplifting music.

Bio

Genius can be measured in a number of ways: ability, originality and accomplishment. In Michael’s short career he has managed to touch on every cornerstone, leaving proof of his musical competence at producing big room, progressive and tech-house tracks, along with a discernible motivation to better the quality of music being distributed. This has not gone unnoticed, with DJs like Pete Tong jumping at the chance to document Michael’s rise, featuring him on shows such as Radio 1’s 15 minutes of Fame.

From Argentinean & Guyanese decent, he was born and raised in Hackney London which he still calls home running his studio from there. Classically trained in a range of instruments at an early age provided Michael with a catalogue of creative skills including the keys—which he learned to play at the tender age of 3—guitar, drums and trumpet, practically making him a one man band. When not in the studio messing around with Cubase developing his craft, he would be found at Pimlico’s Trinity Music College where he contracted a love for musicality, often using his spare time orchestrating with the percussion section of the London Symphony Orchestra. Earlier achievements include the Michael Woods Remix of Energy 52’s Café Del Mar which held pride of place on the acclaimed Chilled Ibiza Gold Album and is a prime example of the ever growing popularity of the Woods marque. It has never ceased to be continually played and is still considered a classic among DJs and fans alike.

Collaboration’s with the likes of Chris Lake on Domino’s are proof of his skillful production abilities. These, however, are not the sole examples of his talent; many established artists have hired Mr Woods to renovate their sound into a style which emulates Michael’s musical vision. His remixes include Feels Like A Prayer on Toolroom Records, Deadmau5’s Strobe on mau5trap, Deadmau5 & Chris Lake with I Said as well as the more mainstream artists: Adele, Nate James, Xenomania signing Gabriella Cilmi, The Temper Trap, Way Out West and more recently, Estelle (I Can Be A Freak). Each have turned to Michael to help send shock waves through the music world with their sound, upping his status as a respected artist, track-after-track. His ability to rework music with an exceptionally sharp ear for quality production has left him in high regard with many artists and labels across the industry, with direct Tweets from the likes of Tiesto hailing his skill as one of the many examples.

Diffused Music has become his major priority since he founded the label in September 2008. Using it as a platform from which to promulgate his perfected sound, the label has released numerous acclaimed records: Yemba, Dropzone and the Envolver EP. As Michael’s career continues to escalate he has lined up countless events to build on his current success, touring with Deadmau5, setting a number of UK based gigs and also earning a coveted residency spot at one of the most sought after places in the clubbing realm, Cream’s Amnesia in Ibiza. Along with Mark Knights Toolroom Knights events and Pete Tongs Wonderland, the Woods fan base and clientele continues to sky rocket. It is apparent that this is not the height of his creativity, but rather a preview into what assuredly will be an illustrious career.
