Here’s a good look at the week ahead DC nightlife for February 7th -  13th 2011. This new weekly guide will focus on is the parties that appeal to people like me who enjoy clubbing. The dude that ponies up to the bar at the Irish Pub every night probably doesn’t care if a world-class producer and DJ is spinning at Lima on a Thursday night. So I won’t really get into details about the local pub scene or try to get you fired up about drink specials at neighborhood dive bars. That just ain’t our thing. But what I will do is look into the world of DC Clubbing and pick out at least one party per night that will blow your mind…or at least has the components in place to make for a sick blowout. I wish I could give you details on a hot party for Monday night, but right now I think we’re all recovering from our additional Sunday stupor. So let’s get straight into our Tuesday and move forward from there…

Tuesday – February 8th Glow Appreciation Night at Barcode

Every Sunday Club Glow will post a status on facebook.com/clubglow asking who wants free drinks at Barcode. The first 50 people, ages 21 and up, to respond will receive a $40 bar tab at Barcode’s Tuesday evening event with Glow. In addition, the restaurant and lounge will offer a 3-course dinner menu for $30 from 8:00 – midnight as well as half-off bottles of wine. Now, I wasn’t very good at math, but this is probably one of the best deals in town and even cheaper than the standard Restaurant Week deals. And if you’re quick to respond on Facebook, you’ll have a great bar tab waiting for you to enjoy. Now add in the fact that Barcode is bringing in international touring DJ Pleasurekraft to provide music and you can see why I list this as the best party. The ingredients are all there. Great food, great drinks, great music, specials and great people. Tuesday nights have never been better in the District. Visit Barcodedc.com for more info.

Wednesday – February 9th Ewan Pearson at U Street Music Hall

The U Street club with the ridiculously awesome sound system presents one of the most respected and in-demand Techno/Tech House producers, Ewan Pearson this Wednesday evening with support from Jubilee and D$auce. Ewan Pearson has been making records for a living since 1998. His remixes for the likes of Depeche Mode and Chemical Brothers have made him one of dance music’s most respected producers. He’s programmed for Goldfrapp and Gwen Stefani and his production credits include Tracey Thorn’s acclaimed solo album ‘Out Of The Woods’ and The Rapture’s ‘Pieces of the People We Love’. The bio goes on and on but you get the point. If you love dance music, U Hall on Wednesday is your spot. Visit Ustreetmusichall.com for more info.

Thursday – February 10th John Dahlback & Albin Myers “Myback Tour” at Lima

Both DJs are from Sweden. Both spin house music. Both have carved out their own place in the Swedish dance music pecking order. And now both are on tour and hitting up the beautiful Lima Lounge on Thursday night for your listening enjoyment. Dahlback is known for his techy and yet melodic-sometimes disco- esque basslines-that has become famous for moving a dance floors to epic levels of energy and excitement. 2010 marked the release of his 2xCD ‘Mutants’ album (October) as well a recent remix for Benny Benassi (December). Mutants is also the name of his new label, an imprint on the infamous Defected Records. Myers is known for his music, personality, and yes, the Mohawk, and it’s something that’s caught the attention of dance music fans around the globe. Just check out some of his clips on YouTube. His energy in the booth is beyond words and an expression of music most don’t get to see up close. Seeing the two of them together is like watching a magician pull a rabbit from a hat while telling a hilarious joke and hooking you up with backstage passes at the same time. Epic partying will no doubt ensue. Visit ClubGlow.com for more info.

Friday – February 13th DJ Enferno at Pop at Ultrabar

DJ Enferno at Ultrabar Nightclub DC

The legend himself DJ Enferno returns to the place that started it all, ULTRABAR!  Back in the day, Enferno was an Ultrabar Nightclub resident DJ, bangin’ out the best tunes every week and tearing up the dancefloor.  His talents were noticed by some big names, and soon he found himself touring globally with Madonna as her official DJ on the Sticky and Sweet tour!

His mixes are killer, his productions are bangin’, and his skills are unquestionable.  Enferno is the master of the beat, and electrifies the dancefloor wherever he goes.  Whether is a small nightclub or a massive stadium with 75,000+ people, Enferno lights it up!

Now he returns to his old stomping grounds to rip it up once again!  So get the old crew together and come out to party at Ultrabar Nightclub DC!

Friday – February 11th Absolute Addiction at Shadow Room

Shadow RoomI’ve got a secret to tell you. It’s about a private party that only the hottest people in the know can get into. Wanna hear about it? Sounds pretty cool eh? Well this is pretty much the concept that plays out every Friday at Shadow Room, the Foggy Bottom club that takes the VIP concept to a new level. Last week they had celebrity DJ Josh Madden in the house. The night before they hosted Jay Z’s tour DJ. In other words, you never know who might be behind the decks…but you know it will be one of the more famous mix masters in the business. And because this venue brings out some seriously sexy people, it has become the hot spot on Friday nights. Visit Shadowroom.com for more info.

Saturday – February 12th George Acosta at FUR Nightclub

One thing that never changes in DC is you can always count on Club Glow to bring in one of the biggest names in dance music every Saturday night. Be it Armin, Guetta, Aoki, Benassi – the top DJs in the world always save a date for DC. And this Saturday continues the trend with Glow bringing in George Acosta, a global trance music powerhouse. George Acosta was the first artist ever booked at Glow. He continued to be Glow’s biggest draw for over 5 years, outselling the current giants. His impact on trance is unparalleled. Whether it’s progressive, melodic, uplifting, techy, fast, slow, it doesn’t matter. George has affected the career of every trance artist today. No one can argue with that. He defined the sound of South Beach. If you really want to be apart of the biggest party in DC, this is the ticket you want this week and every Saturday thereafter. Visit ClubGlow.com for more info.

Sunday – February 13th Day of Love at One Lounge

Red Skies Party and One Lounge are teaming up to bring you a pre-Valentine’s Day party at the Dupont Circle venue that satisfies any clubgoers deepest desires. It’s a night of great house music and love. Okay, so I know some don’t get into the whole Valentine’s Day idea. That’s fine. But you love something right? Even if it’s just the music, you can’t go wrong spending a Sunday night with some good old house music from DJs Agent Max, Dan O and Pryanikoff. And here’s the kicker… Red Skies is providing a “Love Box” where you can drop a note into the box for someone you love. It could be someone you’re already in a relationship with or someone you just dig and would like them to know. Red Skies promises to deliver your message to the intended person, even if they aren’t there. So who knows what could happen. But the idea and setting make for a perfect Sunday evening party to close out your weekend. Visit Redskiesparty.com for more info.

PS1

dj ps1 washington dcWith a more than respectable Autumn Top 10 on beatport.com, PS1 has moved into Winter 10/11 with enough heat to melt metal! The Moodswing 360 all-star is one of NY’s brightest stars behind the decks. His impressive resume includes events at Cain, 1Oak and Tenjune as well as being a favorite of Diddy. In fact, it seems as though the paparazzi can’t leave the guy alone.

Paris Hilton comes to his events, says hi on a red carpet in LA, and PS1 ends up front page news in all the celebrity gossip columns. Brittney Spears climbs into the booth and starts making out with him and… well, she does things like that anyway. A favorite of Lindsay Lohan and Mary-Kate Olsen, it’s clear that PS1 has quite the buzz going for him. Spinning since he was 12 and discovered at 16 by neighbor DJ Skribble, the NY fly would prefer all that attention be directed on the party itself. All he wants to do is get behind the decks, throw a rager and go home to his sneaker collection at the end of the day.

Check out the pics from the last time DJ PS1 played at Ultrabar!

From: USA (NY, NY)

Style: house

Best Known For: Spinning for the stars

The son of famous toy manufacturer Russell Berrie, David grew up with the opportunity to do anything he wanted… including nothing. He took piano and violin lessons early on, eventually landing at something a bit cooler, turntables.

Inspired by NY icons like Louie Vega, Danny T, A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul; by 16 Berrie had honed his skills and was sneaking out of the house to spin at small clubs in Manhattan. From there it was cake.

Been There, Done That: Having performed events for Diddy, Giselle, GQ and Esquire, Berrie’s inner talent eventually came bursting out. With all that instrumental training and all that NY influence, it was only a matter of time before he traded the posh VIP scene for the infectious, let it all hang out world of electronic dance music.

He certainly has our signature!

Bio

David Berrie has played innumerable bold-face-name parties for the likes of Diddy, Kanye West, 50 Cent, Gisele Bundchen, and Pharrell Williams. He’s a staple at the most exclusive nightclubs around the world. Top promoters and music aficionados across the globe seek him out. It’s nice work if you can get it, but for David Berrie none of it truly matters.

“I know it sounds corny,” David Berrie says, “but what really matters to me is making great music—music that reaches people, music with integrity, music that makes people dance.” The unassuming 24-year old goes on to cite a constellation of luminary DJs who have inspired him early on: Carl Cox, Louie Vega, and Danny Tenaglia. Which begs the question, what gives this young, talented upstart the nerve to name-check such DJ royalty in conjunction with himself? Hard work and talent.

David Berrie wasn’t born with a silver slipmat on his 1200s. His mother, a Korean immigrant, and his father, the son of Bronx-based Russian immigrants, settled in Englewood, NJ. His dad was the marketing genius behind those ubiquitous Troll dolls. His parents made him study classical piano and violin years before he got his decks. He reached that milestone at the tender age of 13 with two Technics and a used Vestax mixer.

“My older sister originally turned me onto hip-hop,” David Berrie explains. “I got really into golden-era late-80s and early-90s Native Tongues stuff — A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Brand Nubian and other artists like KRS-One, EPMD, and Rakim.” His love of music and his enterprising ways found full expression in his thriving junior high school business making CD mixes for classmates. “It was my first experience curating music,” he says. “It was going great, until the principle called me into his office…”

As hip-hop in the late-90s became increasingly commercialized, David Berrie found refuge in the underground. “I started deeper and deeper into the dance scene,” he explains. “I started discovering DJs like Danny Krivit and Frankie Knuckles, and Larry Levan. I began loading up on classics from Fat Beats and Satellite Records.”

At 16, after endless hours spent in his basement, this self-taught DJ landed his first paying club gig in NYC from a handed over promo cd. At the time, David was sneaking out on buses to shuttle to his gigs. From then on David’s aspirations and masterful skills quickly took him from small rooms to the country’s most high-profile nightclubs including Tao Las Vegas, Webster Hall New York, and Liv Miami.

Soon he became the go-to DJ for international high-profile parties playing for luxury brands like GQ and Vogue and traveling to London, France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Croatia. Though he doesn’t like to talk about it, David’s style didn’t go unnoticed; US Weekly recently named him one of “The 25 Most Stylish New Yorkers.”

Most recently, David Berrie has been recording original tracks. President and CEO of dance music mega-label Ultra Records, only needed to hear one of David’s tracks to sign him. This summer single “Take a minute” is due for release in August 2010.

From: USA (Washington, DC)

Style: Jet-black, polished chrome techno

Famous Tracks: Emissions, Roadkill, Ribcage, Rabid

Best Known For: Being one-half of Grammy Award winning EDM pioneers and DJ Mag perennial top 10 duoDeep Dish. Winning Best Minimal Artist and Best Techno Artist at the Beatport Music Awards during his solo career. Founding the SCI + TEC digital label.

DJ Mag Rank: 74

It’s about time we had Dubfire back! The dance music pioneer did his little thing with Deep Dish, you know… multiple DJ Mag Top 10’s, a Grammy, nothing huge. Then he started crushing the world of techno!

DC’s EDM prodigy is one of the most in demand techno acts in the world. His relentless tour schedule leaves little time to run his SCI + TEC label, yet somehow he puts out some of the best new tech artists. Dubfire is so accomplished, in fact, that Native Instruments has him road testing their latest Traktor Kontrol S4 before it enters the production stage.

If it seems like he hasn’t released anything in a bit, that’s because Dubfire has an arsenal of half-finished tunes waiting in the wings. Needless to say, the world of techno is going to be under Dubfire’s blanket in 2011.

Bio

Ali Shirazinia, known by his stage name Dubfire, left the comforts of a storied career as one-half of Grammy-winning duo Deep Dish in order to pursue new life as a producer of “jet-black, polished chrome techno.” Such daring reinvention is not for the faint of heart – yet Dubfire in just three short years has emerged as a technological innovator, an acclaimed producer, and the owner of the lauded SCI+TEC Digital Audio record label.
