Zei Club, Insomnia, Dream, Fur, Ibiza, Ultrabar. Washington DC Nightclubs that have one thing in common….GLOW. A party that started back in 1999 out of a conversation in ZEI alley (alley located on 14th and I streets, next to Lima Lounge). GLOW founder Antonis Karagounis says “I had just read an article named Northern Lights on an EDM magazine. It was talking about the glowsticking culture and how it’s associated with Trance music, and I thought, if we bring Trance to DC, GLOW is a great name for the party”.

GLOW, premiered at ZEI club in October of 1999 and it was packed every single week. ZEI club had never been as packed, and it had been open for almost a decade. GLOW was not based on any DJ’s; it was based on the sound of DJ Pete Moutso. “Back then, Trance had these long breaks and the buildup to the main beats of the song” Moutso says. So we thought about utilizing the breaks for a crazy intro to the night, with balloon drops, confetti cannons, stringers etc.” The first guest DJ was George Acosta from Miami, an amazing night. Since then, GLOW has been in the forefront of EDM music by bringing future top 10 DJ’s when most people had not even heard of them. Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Markus Schulz and others, came to DC for the first time, and have been calling the Nation’s Capital their home ever since. Other GLOW guest DJ’s include, Paul Van Dyk, Sasha and Digweed, Paul Oakenfold, Carl Cox, Kaskade, David Guetta, Benny Benassi, Deep Dish and hundreds of others.

This Saturday, October 3rd, GLOW is celebrating 10 years of musical evolution at FUR Nightclub. The past 10 years have brought awards and accolades for the event. However, GLOW is not resting. This fall, the biggest DJ’s in the world are coming to help GLOW celebrate its first decade. Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Sander Kleinenberg, David Guetta, Paul Van Dyk, Above and Beyond, Kaskade and more. U2 put a great show together. Not only special effects, great lights, stage production and sound. The was also a message of unity, political and religious tolerance, and humanitarian work around the World. Themes include Poverty in Africa, Aids, Political turmoil in Iran and even the house arrest of Aung San Suu Kyi, the opposition leader in Burma. Deep messages for a loyal fan base that likes to be involved in world matters and the politics of coexistence. Overall, i feel that U2 put together a show that set a new standard in Washington DC Entertainment.
