I’m not a big concerts guy. But when U2 comes to DC, I have to pay my respects.

I got my floor tickets, from my friends at Skyy Vodka and I decided to beat the traffic and go later. I knew U2 was going on at 9pm so I wasn’t worried. WRONG! It took me and hour and a half from downtown Washington DC, the limo picked us up from Lima Lounge on 14th and K streets. Seriously, the Redskins better start winning, because soon, no one will be at that stadium. Total chaos, crazy traffic, one lane going in to the parking lots. That stadium is impossible to get to. Mr. Snyder start providing free helicopter sides, or soon you’ll be watching the game alone from your suite!

Anyway, the production was amazing. The stage looked like a spaceship that just landed on earth. The video wall was like the new video wall of the Dallas Cowboys stadium. The sound was the cleanest sound I have heard in an outdoor event. Perfection!

U2 in DCU2 360 Tour

U2 put a great show together. Not only special effects, great lights, stage production and sound. There was also a message of unity, political and religious tolerance, and humanitarian work around the World. Themes included Poverty in Africa, Aids, Political turmoil in Iran and even the house arrest of Aung San Suu Kyi, the opposition leader in Burma. Deep messages for a loyal fan base that likes to be involved in world matters and the politics of coexistence. Overall, i feel that U2 put together a show that set a new standard in Washington DC Entertainment. If you’ve never seen them in concert, catch them next time they’re around. Must see!!!!

Here’s a little insider’s tips and tricks guide for an amazing Saturday night at Ultrabar Nightclub and Lounge in DC.

Ultrabar

Where is it: Ultrabar is located at 911 F Street, NW, Washington DC, at the corner of 9th and F Streets. It is 2 blocks away from the Verizon Center, and right next to Gallery Place Chinatown and Metro Center metro stations. Metro runs until 2-3 am depending on the station. There’s a lot of taxis available in the area, so don’t hesitate to cab it to the Club.

When to go: Doors open at 9pm. The club gets busy by 11:00 and packed by midnight.

Drink Specials: There’s an Open Bar (yes that means free drinks), from 9-10pm. Also $8 1800 silver Tequila, $6 007 drinks( pronounced double O 7′s), $8 Grand Marnier shots, $6 Patron Espresso shots, $5 Don Julio Tequila shots, and $5 Dos Equis beer until midnight.

Music Format: Main floor has Dance and Hip Hop. The DJ is actually using Video Mixing as well, which means that he’s actually mixing Videos with the songs and you can enjoy it on the big screen projection. There’s a Mezzanine overlooking the main floor with its own bar and a good amount of tables and couches if you wanna relax away from the madness.

Basement has Old School Hip Hop music. Check out the basement; it used to be the Vault of the Bank that occupied this century year old building many years ago and you can actually see the old safe deposit boxes still preserved in a glass display. There’s seating towards the back of the floor, in case you wanna relax and talk with your friends.

Bedroom is the second floor, recently renovated and looking modern and comfortable. Dance to the Latin Beats of DJ Mario; doing the Salsa is mandatory here!

Chroma is the top floor of Ultrabar. The music is International here and the crowd is definitely more eclectic on that floor. Chroma means color in Greek, and if you visit that floor you’ll see how it took its name.

How to save money, skip the line and look cool at the same time: Saturdays at Ultrabar are hot. There’s usually a very long line of people trying to get in. But guess what; you don’t have to wait in line, and you don’t have to pay!!!
