About Green Velvet

Green Velvet, initially created by house don Cajmere (AKA Curtis Alan Jones) as an outlet for his non-vocal productions and frequent DJing gigs, grew to become even more popular than the man himself, thanks to club singles like “Preacher Man,” “Answering Machine” and “The Stalker.” Each were infectious, undeniably fun records with simple vocal taglines and a wonderful sense of humor. Jones, who had nurtured the Chicago house renaissance of the 1990′s with his Cajual Records, gained immense success in 1993 with the Cajmere single “Brighter Days” (with vocals performed by Dajaé). Later that year, he formed the sub-label Relief Records mostly for instrumental tracks by himself and others. Besides releases from DJ Sneak, Gemini and Paul Johnson, Green Velvet figured on many of the early Relief singles, including its first, “Preacher Man” as well as “Flash” (also released on the British label Open), “The Stalker” and 1997′s hilarious “Answering Machine.” Jones began to do supplement his Green Velvet DJing schedule with quasi-live gigs as well, and released his first LP in 1999. His self-titled release on F-111 one year later compiled a dozen of his earlier club hits, and the proper sophomore production album “Whatever” appeared in 2001 on his own Relief label.

Change has been a constant theme throughout the successful career of Green Velvet, but as he has crossed genres, explored themes from the comedic to the serious and changed monikers, the common thread running through the music he has made for nearly two decades is its roots in and dedication to the Chicago House sound.

His first transformation came when he left master’s degree studies in chemical engineering at UC-Berkeley to turn a hobby into a career making music, influenced by the sounds he had been exposed to as a science-fiction-loving, video-game-playing kid whose father was a part-time Chicago DJ.

As Cajmere, he released his inaugural Underground Goodies EP in 1991 on his Cajual label, keeping true to the early House sound. He quickly followed it up the next year with the smash hit “Coffeepot (It’s Time for the Percolator).”

Not one to rest on his success, he soon changed things up, teaming with vocalist Dajae for “Brighter Days,” a more mellow House tune, this one released by Emotive. That pairing would be his last with a female vocalist until his recent partnership with rapper Kid Sister for “Everybody Wants.”

The 17 years in between those two projects witnessed an incredible array of electronic music emanating from this prolific artist, as well as a second label under his direction, Relief. Adopting the persona Green Velvet (not to mention a Day-Glo shock wig) for his techno-oriented pieces and DJ appearances, he became the champion of new wave Chicago beats through the ’90s-known best for hits such as “Preacher Man,” “Flash” (a No. 1 U.S. dance hit in 1995), and 1997′s laugh-inducing “Answering Machine.” The decade ended with his first album, Constant Chaos in 1999. The new century brought a compilation album, Green Velvet, during a brief signing with Warner Bros. Records’ short-lived F-111 imprint, and a production album, Whatever, on Relief. The punk-inspired Whatever explored darker themes than his previous work, including racism (“When?”), drug use (“Genedefekt” and “La La Land”), alienation (“Sleepwalking”) and bending to authority (“Gat”).

“La La Land” went on to become by far the biggest selling track of his career. His live act expanded as he began playing a keytar, with two other musicians-Nazuk and Spaceboy-backing him, playing heavily distorted synths.

The last decade also saw Green Velvet become a fan favorite across Europe, playing to huge crowds at festivals in addition to live radio appearances and club gigs. Numerous side projects and remixes under various names also added to his seemingly nonstop musical output.

In 2005, Green Velvet released his third album, Walk In Love, which stayed true to the House sound, with a few pop- and punk-oriented tracks for good measure, including “Come Back” and “Pin-Up Girl,” both of which featured a live guitarist.

The ongoing evolution in the music, career and life of the artist born Curtis Alan Jones in Chicago has been and will continue to be fascinating to watch and experience for his many followers.

About Chris Lake

For the past five years, Chris Lake has been living the dream. As a DJ he’s travelled the globe. As a producer, he’s topped industry charts over and over again. As a lover of music, he continues to chase down the freshest beats around. Simply put, he’s become one of the great DJ/ Producers of the modern world.

In 2009 Chris turned to the Americas with the intention of winning over two of ‘the’ musically cultured continents. Two Billboard Dance chart airplay number 1’s and multiple tours, have ensured that from Vancouver to Rio, NYC to Miami… the sound of Chris Lake has travelled far and wide, and is now embraced with loving arms, no matter what the city.

The question is, what is the sound of Chris Lake? Yes, he is known for his musical crossovers, and based on the success of ‘Changes’, ‘La Tromba’, ‘Only One’ and ‘If You Knew’, why not? The latter, taking the number one spot in the Music Week, Buzz and Cool Cuts charts, while the accompanying music video was praised by MTV and broke into its Top 5 weekly chart.

As a DJ his vibe is very different, always enjoying the darker and deeper side of electronic music, yet still fusing in cheeky edits and homemade tracks, just so the dance floor knows it’s the Chris Lake experience and one to be savored.

2010 kicked off with a Michael Woods remix of his collaboration with good friend Deadmau5 ‘I Said’ taking Pete Tong’s first ‘Essential New Tune of the decade.’ That was to be just the beginning… further works with Michael Woods on Dominos and another BBC Radio 1 hit, this time with Nelski on Minimal Life – all peaking with his Lake & Lys album ‘Cross the Line’, launched mid way through his residency at Cream Ibiza with Deadmau5 and Friends. The year ended in fine style, Chris and Marco, once again ripping up a re-edit, this time Nightrider’s ‘Hey’ got the treatment – another Buzz Chart No.1 for the guys.

The year to come promises a massive America tour, an excited move to LA and much much more music!

Chris Lake is….? The word ‘accomplished’ springs to mind. Now it’s up to us to sit back and enjoy the pleasure of watching as his attitude towards music matures and develops… who knows what’s yet to come…

About Boris

The rich heritage of New York nightlife is focused on the figure of the resident DJ: The homegrown jock that puts down roots in a single venue, bonds with its crowd, and explores the limits of a DJ set with his faithful. The DJs who flourish in this demanding environment go on to become folk heroes, not only in New York, but all over the world (see Larry Levan, Danny Tenaglia, Junior Vasquez).

DJ Boris started his ascension to these ranks in 2004, when the native of St. Petersburg, Russia took up residence at New York super club Crobar. It was the culmination of years of workhorse gigging at almost every club across the Big Apple. But it was more than that too: It was a movement that has shown no signs of fading.

Boris (birth name: Boris Inzhin) started moonlighting as a DJ while taking classes at the Institute Of Audio Research in New York. With a metronomic mixing ability and a penchant for expansive, groove-based power-house music, the jock quickly found work both in DJ and production booths, playing at clubs like Exit, and Roxy, and remixing artists like Janet Jackson, Jewel and Gloria Estefan. In 2002, his mix of Pink’s “Get This Party Started” hit No.1 on the Billboard Hot Club Play chart.

His relentless approach to bring his cult of followers the best sound and experience possible has taken his production to even greater heights. Powerhouse industry labels like *69 Records, and Stereo Productions have wasted no time in signing Boris projects to their labels. Dancefloor missiles like “Automatic,” “Everybody Tweakin’,” “Lights Go Out,” and Lisa Pure’s “Movin On” have been embraced by a culture of beat aficionados, in and out of the many clubs DJ Boris has grown to call home.

And if home is where your heart is then Boris must be endowed with a heart the size of North America. His movement has rewarded him with residencies in every major city. Now a regular on the city’s club circuit, the name of Boris started to become associated with unapologetically massive music: big drums, big riffs, huge build-ups and lots of energy. Propelled by the promise of a great party experience and by a growing affection for the approachable DJ and his humble manner, his crowd swelled. By the time Boris debuted at mega club Crobar in May 2004, his faithful numbered in the thousands, united under a spontaneously created banner: “Believe in Boris.” Boys stamped it on their T-shirts in masking tape, girls Sharpied it on their flesh, and eventually Crobar flashed it on their video screens: A battle cry for a clubber’s revolution.

While at Crobar, Boris set the 30,000-square-foot club’s attendance record (a swinging-from-the-rafters 5,400), released his first mixed compilation (aptly titled “Believe”), and started to gig regularly outside of NYC, in markets like Miami, and Las Vegas. In 2006, when it became apparent that Crobar would close, Boris uprooted and moved his crowd 20 blocks north to Pacha New York, the first North American branch of the fabled European club brand, without missing a beat. He is still a Pacha resident.

Boris’ faithful service to the clubbers of New York has been rewarded with two Club World Award “Best Resident DJ” nominations (one while at Crobar, and one while at Pacha), a DJ Times cover story, a top 5 finish in the national America’s Best DJ fan poll, and a new residency at super club Space in Miami. Add this to the already accomplished residencies he holds at Rise in Boston, Therapy in Rhode Island, as well as his regular appearances at Ruby Skye in San Francisco, 960 in Connecticut, Deko Lounge in New Jersey. He’s also become one of the reigning kings of Winter Music Conference week, throwing massive pool parties by day and after-hours marathons by night for thousands of fans. The spoils of success have not halted his enthusiastic work ethic either. His ongoing pursuit to creatively, and musically express himself to those who adore him, has no doubtedly outgrown our own country’s limited borders. With his global campaign as New York’s premiere DJ underway, believers can be found from all corners of the planet. Venezuala, Colombia, Marrakech, Barcelona, Madrid, Ibizia, London, Montreal, Mexico, and Toronto have all been blessed with his energetically extreme beat orchestration. Boris and his team are currently planning the release of his fourth mixed compilation, and a series of European, and South American dates to compliment his tremendous ability in the studio.

So world, New York wants to know: Are you ready to believe in Boris?

About The EC Twins

Born and raised in the musically historic city of Manchester, England, Marc and Allister Blackham, also known as the EC Twins, began their career in the House Music scene in Edinburgh, Scotland at age 16. They quickly evolved from “flyer boys” to creating and running the city’s most successful club: Eye Candy. The Twins excelled, drawing in crowds night after night continually packing Eye Candy beyond capacity. The initials of the infamous nightclub stuck as they are still known around the world as simply…The EC Twins.

In 2005, the Twins launched their own “British Invasion” and headed for the US determined to bring House Music to America and targeted Los Angeles. They began by performing in small clubs, funneling all of their finances into their music and performances. Their hard work began paying off as they slowly turned a local fan base into an army of dedicated worldwide followers. Today, the EC Twins still call LA home and are the most influential and in demand house music DJ’s, pursued by every venue from underground to A-list.

Known for their incredibly infectious high energy shows, the Twins have performed as the opening act for artists such as the Black Eyed Peas, Kaskade, Erick Morillo, and now headline in their respective residencies at New York’s Lavo, Tao groups newest and hottest club The Marquee, and Lavo and Tao nightclubs in Las Vegas, Liv in Miami, and Enclave in Chicago. In addition, they have recently performed at major electronic music festivals such as the Electric Daisy Carnival, Ultra Music Festival and the Winter Music Conference.

The EC Twins continue their quest to rule the electronic music world, not only as well respected DJ’s, but also highly sought after producers. The talented duo have achieved top 10 success with their remix of Grammy nominated Andy Caldwell’s “Scream” and Second Sun & Paul Harris’s “Doing It Well” remix which outsold the original 8:1. The EC Twins/Remy Le Duc original track “Say Yes” featuring Shakeh EP, is available on iTunes after hitting the top 40 on the Beatport Progressive House Charts. Their remix with Remy Le Duc, of David Garcia & High Spies “All Here Now” featuring Sarah Tancer, has broken the top 10 on Billboard’s Dance charts and is still climbing.

Upcoming releases include OM Records highly anticipated EC Twins/Remy Le Duc remix of “Little White Doves” from the Grammy award winning act Dirty Vegas. The countdown has begun for the summer release of their remix of Paul Oakenfolds classic “Resurrection” due out on PERFECTO records and Armin Van Buuren’s ARMADA.

2011 is just the beginning of what is sure to be a long lasting career of trend setting original music and high profile remixes from this talented duo, who continually work hard to pave the way for House Music domination on a global scale.
